Hall's blog linked to a very interesting IG report today regarding (among other things) the level of information ODAR provided in support of its request for ARRA/stimulus funds. While the entire thing is worth reading (it's short) the bit of general interest is the proposed staffing and opening dates for the new offices. Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. Question pertaining to those on the register for awhile who just had the opportunity to change their duty locations. Did you have the opportunity to include all of these proposed new offices in your request?

Hi. Excited I recently found this forum, it has already been very helpful. I am completing my application and resume now (Vet preference) and realize I may have already missed the boat as far as these new offices are concerned. There are some very desirable locations listed. Are these predicted or projected dates realistic, so that the new offices are most likely to be staffed off of the current register? Has OPM already sent new certificates for these offices?

I've heard from an ALJ from another Agency who still has friends at ODAR that plans are afoot to open a new office in Jersey City, NJ. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I don't see why anyone would want to work there - it's so darn close to Manhattan.

Believe me, there are plenty of people who live in NJ who would work there in a second--it's a much easier commute when you don't have to worry about traffic on the tunnels and bridges every morning.

I guess I was being too subtle - I was joking! I know there are lots of people who wouldn't be caught dead working in the NY metropolitan area. As a New Yorker living in Jersey I would jump at the chance in. . . what's the expression? A New York minute!

In '07, I limited my choices to NJ, metro NY & Philly & didn't get selected. In '08, I added 125 locations & got the call. 1200 miles away from NJ & loving it. Don't be afraid to expand your choices. You may be happily surprised. Jerseymom

Can anyone make a reasonable prediction on whether the Covington, GA office will open in July as apparently planned? If so, will ALJ's for that office most likely come from the current register, or from the NOV '09 applicant pool? I know this is all crystal ball stuff, but what the heck...

I believe the first thing that will happen is the Agency will need to open it to current ALJs for transfer pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement with AALJ. Whatever is left will then be available to the incoming ALJs. Since I have no idea how many current ALJs might be interested in going to Covington, it's very hard to predict. Especially since much of it also depends on when the alleged January cert gets hired and trained. So there are too many wild cards to give an accurate guess right now. Once we have more information on the progression of the January cert, it will be easier to answer this question.

The agency has already solicited transfer requests for Covington and all of the other new offices from existing ALJ's as well as solicited HOCALJ vacancies. The opening dates for all the new offices are pretty firm at this point though any could slip a month here or there depending on construction issues. Its the agency preference to staff new offices with existing ALJ's. Its hard enough to get a new office off the ground with experienced ALJ's. Its also important to remember that even though an office is being built out for x number of judges, (9 for Covington for instance) that does not mean that there will be 9 judges assigned there the day the office opens or even 6 months or 12 months after that. Expect the agency to see how many ALJ offices are open in existing offices after the next round of transfers are offered and fill those all up with new hires before any new hires would be assigned to any of the new offices.

Does anyone have an idea when they will start posting positions for other staff such as attorney advisors? I've heard people say go to usajobs before, but I have seen postings that were on law school's job boards but not on usajobs.
Thanks in advance
