I need to schedule a trip in late March, and I am wondering whether, if I am so lucky as to be invited to a structured interview, whether I would have the option of getting another date for it if the one I am given conflicts with my week out of town? Even if it is an option, is it the kiss of death if you do so?

You could try to reschedule the interview, but don't count on it. I was in the same dilemma last year, and they were not flexible with the interview date/time. They have to schedule so many people in such a short period of time.

Topher, I am in exactly the same boat. I need to be gone for a week in mid March and am not sure what to do. It would be nice to hear one way or the other. Everytime I get an email, I think it might be THE ONE, but alas, usually just junk email.

Topher, my WD and SI were initially scheduled a few weeks apart. It would have been great if I had left things as they were, because I am only a few hours from DC and could gave taken the train to both. However, I also had a conflict and asked to reschedule my SI for a specific date range. The result: they ignored my date range & rescheduled my SI two days after my WD, so I ended up having to stay at a hotel in DC for 3 nights at a significant cost. It would have been perfect for someone who was flying in from another state, but not for me.
When you ask to reschedule, they do not ask how it fits with your schedule. You are at their mercy. So when you get your dates, weigh your options and be prepared to accept the worst case scenario if you ask to change the dates.

The OPM was granting to candidates change of date(s) in the summer of 2007. That does not mean they would let one pick his/her own date - they would simply send an email with a different date/time. BTW, please check ALJ Hiring F&Q and/or use search option and find your answer.

Throw out your reasonable expectations. This is OPM.
