Interesting. Happy Hawaiian has heard asking for his preferred testing location, and no one else has heard anything. Could that be because the rest of us gave them our preferred testing location? Didn't the application say something to the effect that the default was Washington DC?

I haven't heard anything either. I just checked my e-mail. However, I chose the Washington D.C. testing site. Please provide some details. They would be appreciated.

Didn't the application say something to the effect that the default was Washington DC? I take it HH was silent on a testing locale preference? My guess is that somebody at OPM may have recognized the fact that it will take HH longer to get wherever he/she is going for testing since the starting point is Hawaii (I'm assuming you are in Hawaii). If HH is testing in San Fran it will not take them as long as in DC and so they may not need as much lead time. Just a guess. If we have any other readers/applicants from Hawaii, Alaska, or who are now in another, distant country, it would be interesting to know whether they've also been contacted about a testing site.

Hi, I'm new, thanks for the great but overwhelming site-- I submitted a complete app and never got an email at all yet-- what does that mean? It says 'awaiting results-- you will be notified' on usajobs. Should I have heard something by now? Does it mean something that I have not been notifed? Are there others who have heard nothing yet?

PF - As always thanks so much for the information. I am hopeful I get the "Congratulations!" e-mail from OPM.

I had really hoped that we would be notified by the end of this week. Perhaps Feb. 1st?
I do have a question about veterans preference. If veterans can apply at any time and not just during an open announcement, who do they compete against? If they take the exam do they just automatically proceed through all three steps, get a score, and automatically get placed on the register? If this is the case then why would veterans ever apply during an open announcement where they have to compete with everyone else?

Hi, Short term lurker, new member. With the apparent variability of status messages (location prefenrence email, 'awaiting results-- you will be notified' on USAJOBS) noted in this thread, does having a "Complete" status on App Manager denote anything negative? In other words, if I was going to be approved for next steps, should it say anything else at this point? Thanks in advance.

...does having a "Complete" status on App Manager denote anything negative?...or USAJOBS status saying "Application Status not Available" Don't drive yourself crazy trying to read tea leaves from OPM. I assume that they were working on getting the recent cert out, and now will turn their attention to us. Watch your email, watch App Manager, and watch the board. Now, to try and follow my own advice ;D

I've never been so happy to see there are messages in my "spam" folder than I am right now as I wait and hope for the OPM e-mail. Of course, its always just spam

Patriots Fan, you said: "I can tell you that it will arrive prior to March 15, 2010. How much prior is anyone's guess." Wow, thanks, very reassuring.

Of course, its always just spam Yeah I check mine daily and though I've not seen anything from OPM I do keep getting interesting correspondences from some dude in Nigeria that wants me to hold on to the money he was able to save after his wife died and the provisional goverment raided his family's account...

First not all Veterans can take the exam at any time, only 10 point Veterans (usually those with some service connected disability or a Purple Heart). Other Veterans get 5 points and take the test with everybody else.
As to who they compete with, everybody on the register. They go through the same process of application, WD and SI getting a score placing them on the register. It is just that their testing process takes place at a different time.

Thanks chinook. So the 10 point veterans do not have to compete with others during the first phase of the process right? They will automatically get to complete each phase and get on the register.

Without stealing Chinook's thunder, a 10 point or purple heart vet just gets to take the test when the annoncement is closed. If he or she doesn't get enough points for experience, he or she doesn't even get to take the WD or PI or whatever they call it these days. I know a couple of these folks who never got past the skill/experience qualification although they were under <1994 exam process when signiicant trial/litigation experience was strictly applied to applicants.

Put it down to adversarial vs non-adversarial hearing environment... Or real lawyer versus lifelong bureaucrat. Now see, that's just mean, PF. So now that you have signed up to be a partlife bureaucrat, have you ceased being real? Or were you given magical mystical powers that no other bureaucrat got?
