My WD (17 years ago) could have been in Greek or pig latin- wouldn't have made much difference- just reading the question and all the "law" put you to sleep, unless you had spent your adult life in the SEC.

Maybe this thread's title should change to: "well, maybe when I return from summer vacation".

Maybe this thread's title should change to: "well, maybe when I return from summer vacation". This had me laughing all afternoon. Maybe after next Halloween? Perhaps if there is a snow day, someone can start a "get to know your fellow ALJ applicants" quiz. We can come up with questions that do not relate to the job, things like favorite color, favorite book, favorite TV shows. I know, I know, I can be very "campy" sometimes! At least I am not still asleep from the night that I posted that I was hoping to wake up to some new information about the ALJ exam!!!!

I put the first one or two up just now - everyone go vote.

When I went for my interview, I was early and while waiting met another interviewee from New York who told me about this board. She was astonished that I had never heard of it and had blurted out, "How did you get this far?"[meaning to where I qualified for an agency interview]. I don't know the answer to her question but I appreciated all the information she shared with me and hope all has gone well for her. However, sometimes I recall my days of ignorance where there was no board known to me to hoover over and yearn for those good old days. But for the most part I am glad to have this source of information.

As bad as waiting here is, you are much better off than the rabbits in Australia, where the Australian government has just authorised the use of dinamite to help control their population! Thoes wraskly wabbits need to get some flack vests now! The Penguin (from balmy Cape Crozier)

Just to point out the ridiculously obvious, the interviews are supposed to start on March 15, people say that it's been the norm that the exam was before the interview, March 15 is now less than four weeks away, and no applicant has heard a thing.

To continue tricia's thought, most airlines require that a ticket be bought three weeks in advance to get the best price. And of course one would hope that two tickets are not required.

Don't forget though, for the first time OPM asked applicants to choose one of 3 preferred sites for the WD/SI. I suspect that they are banking that they will be able to complete the process more quickly than in the past.

DC, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Those three cities were preferences for the WD only. All SI's are slated for DC.

Private attorney said: "To continue tricia's thought, most airlines require that a ticket be bought three weeks in advance to get the best price. And of course one would hope that two tickets are not required. " If two-thirds of us chose San Francisco or Chicago for the test, two tickets will be required. Some lucky person will receive an email on March 11 saying that his or her test is in San Francisco on March 15, and the interview is on March 17 (Happy St. Patrick's Day) in Washington DC.

The majority of the folks who have gone through this process in the past made two separate trips to Washington, D.C. Only a handful were lucky enough to have their WD's and SI's scheduled in the same week.

Only a handful were lucky enough to have their WD's and SI's scheduled in the same week. Mine were a few days apart; luckily I had vacation time from my job and a sister who lives just outside DC, so I made a little vacation of it. I hope to do something similar, although the short notice we're getting is a REAL problem.

By way of an update, OPM is still on schedule for the SI to begin week of March 15th. Wow, so written test should be very soon, as we thought.

Wow, so written test should be very soon, as we thought. Agnes -- You do understand that first there must be an e-mail from OPM that notifies the applicant that he/she has been selected to go on to the WD and SI -- correct? Historically, not all applicants were allowed to take the WD and SI. I don't expect that this time around will be any different. Ladywordsmith Of course, going by historical standards, those notices would have gone out about a month ago. My theory is that as a time-saving measure, OPM is skipping the step of notifying us whether we've been invited to participate in the WD and SI . . .

I'm not sure that's correct. I seem to recall getting the email about making the cut about a month or so before the first dates for the SI/WD. That would suggest an email any day now. I knew when I wrote it there was an ambiguity. You are correct if you count from the notice to the WD/SI. I was referring to the period of time between the close of the application period and the notice, at least for the last two application periods, when the notices went out almost exactly two months after the application deadline. It has now been well over three months. In any event, it should be, as you say (say it with me, everybody): . . . any . . . day . . . now . . .

Ladywordsmith Expect half of the applicants not to get the invite to take the WD and do the SI. For those who have chosen San Francisco and Chicago (you guys are so spoiled), check flights to Oakland and Midway Field (respectively) to save a bundle on air fare. Use the blue vans or super shuttle to a hotel close to the site where you can cab from. Try www.sidestep.com
