I just want to say that I am dismayed by some of the posts. I am a big fan of Patriots Fan because he has been so supportive of other applicants (including me), and he has posted so much helpful information. I am less familiar with the posts of Valkyrie because she has posted mostly before I came back to read the messageboard after the November 2009 application. I don't understand at all the level of vitriol in their posts and some of the others. I know that this application process is stressful, but these two already have the job the rest of us are dreaming about. If anyone is going to be spewing verbal sulfuric acid, shouldn't it be me, who screwed up the 2007 application and missed the 2008 application? Or the humorously named Zero? Or the guy who saved his application at 11:57 PM, to read it over a final time the next day, only to find that the applications closed at midnight? For those of you who don't know, there was a previous board which got shut down due to the posters insulting each other. This board is very valuable to me and to a lot of other people. I hope that the insulting posts are at an end. I would feel terrible if this board were shut down.

Patriots Fan, you said: "I make no apologies for having very strong opinions about the abuses I have witnessed firsthand by SSA, and the lack of interest in investigating those abuses by OPM." Hey, I think that everyone or almost everyone here is very interested in your strong opinions regarding SSA and OPM. The question is, is there any way that they could be expressed without calling V stupid and pathetic?

I have received a personl message indicating that it is not helpful for me to repeat the exact words that I have been objecting to in Patriots' Fan's posts. I agree. Sorry.

Everyone- take a breath. Pix and ALJDisscussion do a pretty good job of keeping this civil. Val didn't get disced untin she ignored the shot across her bow.. For what its worth, I don't think its kosher to accuse anyone of anything until they retire or its in a public record but hey I am the guy that closed down WWW so go figure..

I agree. Self-policing is good, and where it fails, the mods here seem to step in when warranted. To me, the first one to resort to personal attacks has lost the argument anyway, and that's usually a good sign to tune out. Eat the fish, spit out the bones.

It is one thing when the kids resort to name calling, but it is disturbing to see how quickly things can go downhill around here. We are adults. We are attorneys. We should be a rather intelligent, articulate lot. But sometimes it seems that some of us were not properly socialized as pups.
Obviously, folks feel passionate about various issues, but we should be able to rationally discuss things.

Please accept my apologies, ALJDiscussion, for accusing you of shutting down the Wild Wild West! This is indeed a dead, beyond rigor-mortis, horse, but man-oh-man, did I disagree with that move, decadealj! And I have to say, tricia, that I agree with much of what pf has said on this one. Name calling, no. This Board has alot of folks on it (say 90%) who have only been at SSA in the recent past and have no intention of leaving it. SSA bears little if any resemblance to the rest of the ALJ Corps. You have non-adversarial Hearings. That's a huge difference to the rest of the ALJ Corps and as this Board has proven time and time again, much of it is metaphysical. decadealj gets antsy about WWW and shuts it down! A whole host of posters don't like conflict.... me, pf and dare I say it, val, seem to love conflict! Does it cross the line? Oh, you betcha! Do I condone this line-crossing? No. Do I think it needs censure? A more difficult question, but let's just say I think Pixie did the right thing. One warning is enough.

While the vitriol might get a bit over the top from time to time, folks appear to me to be a little over-sensitive to conflict on this Board, given that the Board is made up of attorneys. My favorite phrase is "let's not get our panties in a bunch." What if we tend to go commando?

PA- I had no control over WWW but one of my posts about misconduct of ALJs who were AAJs (in the infamous insider-outsider discussion) was credited with disolving the blog. The names I named were all fired, retired or a matter of public record, i.e. MSPB decisions. The worst was used to sponsor HPI, shoving it down our throats. Its all still there somewhere because I recall seeing a reconstuction of the thread, but its not worth it. I made my apologies to Pix at the time but I think she understood the hisrorical relevance of the post to where we are today (deep do-do with E-biz, a terrible legal oganization in ODAR offices with H.S. grad GSs supervising even SAs, and now more assistance with Word 7 and CPMS improvements which boggle the mind). If I could just delegate the data entry and CPMS update clerk tasks of my job, I swear I could do another 100 cases a year (and yes I meet the "body count" expectation every year.
