Hi all: I am trying to estimate how long it will take to receive a score from OPM (for those of us who completed the WD and SI this month). I was looking through the 2009 posts to see how long it took last year. It looks like the scores went out on February 27, 2009. I could not tell when the SI's were complete, but the last date I saw mentioned for an SI was January 13, 2009. Based on last year's timetable, it looks like it might take 6 weeks from the final SI (mid-April 2010) to receive our scores, unless the scoring process is somehow expedited this year.
Does anyone know if the SI's actually extended beyond January 13, 2009, last year? If so, that would reduce the estimated wait time for this year.
Also, does anyone have any reason to expect that the scoring calculation period will be shorter this year? (On another thread, someone mentioned that OPM expects to create the new register by April 17, 2010. That date seems unlikely if the SI's are continuing into the second week of April this year. But it at least indicates that they may try to speed up the scoring since they will miss the April 17 deadline.)
I know the process is unpredictable, but it seems like we could make an educated guess on the timeline because the numbers were somewhat similar in last year's process. Any thoughts based on past experience?
(Also, I know we should not obsess, we should just put it out of our minds and move on with our lives, and we should just be pleasantly surprised when the email arrives. But you can't blame us for obsessing just a little.)

If memory serves, last year, it took about a month after the SI to get a score (which was on 02/27), and then a month and half to get on the cert and and interview w/SSA. I think that was in mid-april. Offers came out about a month and half later, in early June.

The SI extended beyond Jan 13. There were some in February. I think you will know your score before May 1, 2010 and Maybe even by that April 17 date.

I was wondering about this too because I read where someone said OPM would have the new register completed by April 17th.
How is this possible given previous history and the fact that testing is still taking place that week? What inside info does anyone have that has led you to believe we will know by April 17th?

There were some who got late notifications who are not scheduled for WD/SI's until 04/12 & 04/13. If I had to guess, I'd say NOR's will come out about mid-May at the earliest.

The handful of snow days alone should put them behind by at least a month. A month after 4/17 is close enough for government work.

While this is slightly off topic I thought it would be of interest to those going through the application process. I spent some time this afternoon chatting with one of the ALJs at my agency. She told me she received a call from a retired ALJ who was in town grading the Written Demonstration (He indicated it gets old reading the answer to the same question over and over again.) So it appears that computers and monkeys and GS-5 clerks have been replaced by retired ALJs.

Hmmmmm. Could OPM actually know what its doing after all? That depends on who the retired ALJs are. They could actually be hearing officers and hearing examiners in disguise.

No, OPM doesn't know what its doing. At the WD, this past week, two of the test administrators had a very difficult time getting the WDs printed. It was comical - I almost busted out laughin in my dismay. Belgrade was just as amused.
The last time I went to this rodeo I took the test as one of the last test takers just like this time the first week of October 2007 and results were out by 10/31. Therefore I predict the second week of May, just in time to ruin my Mother's Day. (let's hope not!!!)

Here's where I live: (1) my invitation to participate says: "the WD and SI will be conducted ... and conclude before the end of April," (2) I sent an E-mail notifying OPM that I would be out of the country the last week of April and first week of May and would be unable to reply to mail but that I would reply to any mail as soon as I returned and OPM sent me the standard E-mail reply saying it got my E-mail and nothing more, (3) yesterday I logged in and checked my status on the application manager and nothing is new there, and (4) I have been checking my junk E-mail file, just in case, but it's my understanding that we will be notified via US mail.

In the past, scores have been sent via email. When you receive your score, there is no need to respond unless you are appealing.

Based on information gathered (magpie-like) I think the Commissioner is expecting the register to be refreshed and will request a certificate some time in May for June interviews, expecting to hire with a start date some time in mid to late September. While I think the bits and pieces I found are accurate enough, how I put them together is open to, um, interpretation.

I heard that HOCALJs are being asked to be part of interview panels for the 2nd and 3rd weeks in June. Hopefully OPM and the agency can coordinate getting a cert out so those of you that are on the cert will have enough time to make travel arrangements.

Let's think positively that our scores will come that Friday, May 7, and that we'll think - this is the best Mothers' Day gift ever!

Our Regional HQ stated the tentative training dates for the new ALJ classes this Fall are: First Class: 9/13 - 10/8/10 Second Class: 10/12 - 11/5/10 Based on past experience, new ALJs first go to their HO for two weeks prior to the four week training listed above. So the first class should be reporting to their HO on Monday, 8/30/10. Speculating the time line in reverse, offers should probably be going out by mid-August at the latest so candidates have time to settle their affairs. This would mean SSA interviews and background checks should been going on in the June/July time frame, and to be able to start interview in June, the NORs will probably need to be issued by early/mid May at the latest. So working backwards, my best guess is the NORs will be issued by e-mail between the end of April - mid-May. It's an educated guess since OPM moves by its own clock, so don't rely on it too much.

So.....since the new class that is reporting in May does not have their 91 days in service until sometime around August 23, is it safe to say that this new class will not be able to transfer before this upcoming big hire? Thoughts anyone.
