You are not being interviewed for any particular geographic location (except for Puerto Rico) but rather for the Agency. In other words, even if you only have one location open this time and you have heard it is being filled by transfer, you still need to do well on the interview, because that interview will count for any future vacancies (at least that is how it has worked to date). I also did not have the impression that the interviewers had any input into where you were eventually placed.

And note that travel for the agency interview is on their dime.

2 quick questions:
1) Do those who make a cert have any say in the time of the interview; and
2) How does reimbursement for the SSA interview work?
Thanks!

And note that travel for the agency interview is on their dime. Really? After what I shelled out for the WD/SI marathon, that's welcome news!

I also heard that outstanding child support, alimony payments, unpaid taxes, undocumented household workers (nanny/housekeeper), mortgage modifications, licensing issues, state bar reprimands or suspensions are ALJ killers ... can anyone confirm any of this? Of interest, late child support payments or mortgage adjustments (i.e., short sales).

Huckleberry: I had a bit of a choice with the interview time but I was flying cross country and the person scheduling my interview was pretty accomodating because of that. I've heard of others requesting certain times and getting them but I wouldn't count on them bending over backwards. They're in a rush to get these scheduled. Second, the reimbursement went smoothly for me. You will recieve info prior to the interview along with the tel. number of the contact person (who actually will answer the telephone!). Just keep your receipts for everything. Travel reservations were made through the gov't travel agency and as I recall when I scheduled my interview they gave me the telephone number of the travel agency with a reference number. It went pretty smoothly actually.

Justice-Dude: late child support will pique their interest and they will ask questions. I wouldn't say it is a "killer" but it would depend on the circumstances. As I referenced earlier, a good friend of mine had issues including allegations of unpaid child support and they did question him about it, more than once. The issue was pending in court at the time and later resolved but they did "keep in touch" until it was finalized. I think the fact he was attempting to resolve it at the time definitely helped him.
