On the CAFC website (http://www.cafc.uscourts.gov/dailylog.html), you click Opinions and Orders. Below that is a case called Steverson v. SSA. This opinion demonstrates how not to behave. In my experience, the CAFC, while not employee friendly, gets it right most of the time
This guy has issues - how can he not know how 1000 sexually graphic files got on his computer?? The other stuff is "interesting" as well.

Better instructions now in original post. Just go to CAFC main and click opinions and orders and then down to Steverson opinion.

Wow, thanks for sharing that. As if the pornography issue wasn't bad enough, he thought using the official stationery for personal correspondence was okay because it was an outdated version the agency wasn't using? He wasn't disciplined for use of government paper (which, under his explanation was just scratch paper anyway) but for use of official agency letterhead for such correspondence. The agency is better off without a person with the thought processes this judge demonstrated.

According to that, he was 'appointed a federal ALJ by President George W. Bush." In the next paragraph, it says he was appointed by George H.W. Bush. Uh, no, on both counts, actually. And it says he "retired" in April, 2009. Wrong again.
Assuming all the rest of the Wiki entry is true, it makes what he did at SSA even more of a head-shaker.

We had a brief discussion about this embarrassment last year when he got canned by the full MSPB board. aljdiscussion.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1239&page=1Glad to see it took less than a year for the Federal Court to affirm it. As for the wikipedia entry. I think it's probably the man's idealized autobiography. It goes to show you how full of himself he was/is. As someone once said, if you believe everything in Wikipedia, I got some prime beachfront property in Kansas I'd like to sell you.

(That in itself is bizarre) No one else would have said he was appointed an ALJ by the then President. Even taking some of the gloss off the description of his earlier career, this is a most undistinguished end. The link to the other thread didn't work when I clicked it, but I found it with a search; here it is again if anyone else has the problem: aljdiscussion.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1239&page=1

Even taking some of the gloss off the description of his earlier career, this is a most undistinguished end. Indeed. And he has no one to blame but himself. The link to the other thread didn't work when I clicked it, but I found it with a search; here it is again if anyone else has the problem: Thanks.

The actions, the blindness to the consequences, the wiki post or page--all bespeak of a toxic arrogance which this job can foster. Of course this job does not create such arrogance but it can be an environment for it to grow.

This time I totally agree with PA. But my question is how did this guy get appointed in the first place. He didn't just rot overnight.

8-)Decade. this brings to mind an ALJ in our office. He was there when I was transferred. Crazy as a loon, a manic-depressive (now bi-polar) and a complete pill to work with. His problem was, he thought the women in the office adored him, causing him to take certain liberties they frowned on. One of the ALJs was walking down the street and met a local lawyer who asked, "why did y'all hire that crazy sob." The ALJ was assigned to the field office where he practiced law. He did limit his activities to the office, expanding it to bank employees in the building. We had a lady security guard who sat downstairs in the lobby and we were all friendly with her. She called me over one day and told me to warn the HOCALJ that he was hitting on ladies from the bank. I told the HOCALJ to no avail, found out he was trying to hide it from regional, as he played golf with the idiot, and said he was trying to rehabilitate him. Any it got out, and he was charged with 18 complaints. Everybody in the office was interviewed by the investigating panel. I told them they should investigate whoever reviewed his application, vouchers, those on the interview panel. It didn't take people in the office anytime at all to figure him out. He was given the option of resigning of face a termination hearing. He retired. As you know, so many like him slipped by.

I am try to bring some factual accuracy to Mr. Steverson's Wikipedia page at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_SteversonAnd also encourage this page's deletion since it is self serving and has very little value (see deletion discussion at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/London_Steverson). However, it seems like someone <cough cough > keeps on trying to change the page back to the ALJ appointed by President George H. W. Bush and "retired" in 2009 nonsense. So I guess Truthiness is still alive and well there. If anyone has some spare time, please stop by Mr. Steverson's ego shrine and give it a hard factual scrub (yes, I'm looking at you, writer from Downey, CA) ;D. It's not that often you can reach out and touch a disgraced former ALJ over the Internet and let him know that there is a price to lying and truth hurts.

It's still there today, but with a paragraph on top saying: This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policy. Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page. Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed. For more information, particularly on merging or moving the article during the discussion, read the Guide to deletion. Within that, there's a link to the ruling. It's kind of interesting to see how Wiki works. You can see the history of revisions. There has been a flurry of revisions and deletions of revisions. One person who keeps deleting revisions made by Orly99 is identified only by IP address, 108.56.147.247. You can Google the IP address, and see that this IP address is in the heart of Washington DC, not a residential area. Could someone possibly be using a government computer to change Wiki entries? This person is deleting the changes to the Wiki article referencing the removal. See this link: en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=London_Steverson&diff=369603975&oldid=369498153

And, if you google around a little, you can read his description of his own many qualities on his Coast Guard blog. Read in context with the MSPB decision and the court decision affirming the Board, really makes you wonder what it took to get hired as an ALJ back when George HW supposedly appointed him.

The entry has now been deleted from Wikipedia. Yup, truth and justice finally prevail. Maybe he'll fade from sight now.
