I cannot see how they can fail to interview the few people who are on the cert for the first time. they almost have to give everyone an even shot. and who is to say that one of the first timers is not someone that they want to reach.

That's promising news! I realize that they probably have got a short list of people they have already interviewed and would like to hire; however, I have to think that the expansion of the GAL was, in part, geared towards reaching people who had not yet been interviewed and who might be promising candidates. Wishful thinking, perhaps! Allowing the expansion of GALs was certainly intended to make the register "bigger" in terms of the number of available applicants for a given place without actually changing the number of people on the register. I'd like to think they are not in that big a hurry and will interview those they have not seen before. That is an expensive proposition for them, though much less so with fewer people.

It is my understanding that under government human resources regulations if you interview one person on a cert you must interview everybody. Because some have been interviewed, everybody must be interviewed.

Are you all saying that interviews have been granted for the latest test?

Are you all saying that interviews have been granted for the latest test? Nothing to do with the testing. This is for a cert list off the existing register.

Seems reasonable. On the off chance there are new interviews, can someone who has already had one tell me the best way to get from Union Station to the Falls Church office? If it is 7777 Leesburg Pike, At Union Station get on the Metro Red Line (downstairs in Union Station) on a train heading toward Shady Grove or Grovesnor, it will make no difference which. Your third stop will be Metro Center, get off and go down stairs to the Orange Line. Get on the Orange Line train heading toward Vienna (The DC Metro system is essentially identified by the terminus on a particular color of line). West Falls Church will be your 10th stop (your second stop above ground). Get out and get a cab.

You might want to check with Super Shuttle, one of the better, least expensive ways to get around D.C. I believe they have a website. Good luck. Further, if anyway possible, I would recommend one go the day before and spend the night. Much less stressful than trying to get in timely on the day of the interview.. Just a thought.

Absolute do the overnight thing unless you live within a short driving distance. Get a hotel near the interview site and walk. One can never tell what will happen in this area with traffic and stress is the last thing you need on interview day! Good luck-let us know when you hear about the interview.

It is my understanding that under government human resources regulations if you interview one person on a cert you must interview everybody. Because some have been interviewed, everybody must be interviewed. Likewise, I would suspect that many of the people on the March 2013 cert who have not been interviewed yet came in after the initial round closed because they had a veteran's preference. Thus, it would stand to reason that they would all need to be interviewed if OPM sent their names across, because not to do so would constitute discrimination against veterans (which no one would want to be responsible for).

I understand that the Selection Committee was reviewing applicant files on Friday May 10. I have no idea what that means about whether there will be any interviews in connection with this latest certificate.

I understand that the Selection Committee was reviewing applicant files on Friday May 10. Does this mean offers will be made soon? Once, in the past, offers were made a week after the committee met.

No interviews this week -- possibly a few weeks hence. This matches what I've heard. A possibly-related snippet from the most recent AALJ newletter is reproduced below: "From a reliable source it has been reported that the Agency plans to bring the []ALJ corps up to 1700 judges but not before the beginning of FY 2014. This means a significant number of new judges will be appointed from the new OPM register which is supposed to be finalized late this summer." The post then goes on to reiterate that the information is hearsay, and compliment management for pursuing additional hiring.

Not sure if this appears in any other thread. Recent 1 year anniversary ALJ training revealed the following from the Chief ALJ and the Deputy Commiss SSA confirmed.
Funding dependent - there are plans for a small hire off the current register. There are plans for a large hire off the new register next year. If I recall correctly the number was 150-200.
While this is super news, all should view numbers and actual hiring with a jaundiced eye and caution. As far as I can discern, funding has not gushed forth for the hiring this year. I also feel confident that the SSA/ODAR leadership is pushing as best they can for the funding. It may happen and hope it does.
So I think that the glass is half-full vice half-empty.
Best of luck for all.

That means August--not likely--Lets stay realistic and grounded, maybe the end of the year at best. Now back to the offers that will be soon to come for some of the members of this board.

Distinction: For all the new applicants who have just completed the 2nd phase of the test and are trying to do the "wait dance," this thread is in regard to the old register and the people who were notified this spring that they were certified candidates for a possible hire this spring/summer. For those of you just at the second phase of the new register, yet to be formulated, good luck. Those of us who are current certified candidates are waiting for possible offers in the next few weeks. Good luck to all of us on that wait too!!

Ok, one last post before I take a little sabbatical from this board for my own mental health. A couple different people posted that the selection committee has already met. In the past, I seem to remember this happening shortly before offers were extended. Would this be in conflict with interviews being scheduled a couple weeks out? Or maybe they are just doing things differently this time so that they can act quickly when they approval comes through. Back before this most recent cert was issued, I heard that they would go through the entire notification process, but would not extend offers unless/until funds were made free to do so. Nothing that has happened since has made me question the original info. By the way I practiced the "ALJ Discussion sabbatical" myself when I was in wait mode, and highly recommend it. Good luck.
