Thanks! The central issue is that even if AOL ate my email, the fact that the email was sent should have been reflected in USAJobs so a diligent applicant could be apprised of the issue. They also should have notified us that reject or accept letters would be issued by a certain date, and to contact the help desk if you don't receive anything.
In any event, someone else posted that there will not likely be ALJ hiring until 2014.

"Hearing requests continue to come in at high levels in FY 2013, but we do not expect to have the ability to hire ALJs until the third or fourth quarter of FY 2014."
Note: I got this link from socsecnews.blogspot.com, a very good site for news relating to Social Security.

Just offering an explanation why AOL may have been the source of the problem. Otherwise, it is clear that OPM didn't offer any useful solutions to anyone having a technical issue or not receiving notice. Again, best of luck to you.

I concur, isthereagavel. Cannot believe they did not give a real clue on USAJOBS or application manager that the assessment email went out. If you go back in the thread here on application status you will find information about Application Manager saying something like "awaiting results" or "in process" once the email went out. I found email ONLY because I found this website and learned folks were getting the invite. I have AOL email and the email eventually appeared in my spam folder. Email sender was "assessments" and the subject line said "time sensitive link for assessments". That looked like a dead ringer for a money scam to me. Had I not been looking for my invite I would have deleted it in a New York minute. I am certain dozens of folks deleted that in a mass dump of their spam folder. No reference to USAJOBS, OPM, Application Manager or ALJ. Maybe the failure to properly inform in any way other than mass email can be part of the basis for the appeal. Good luck.

Did the job announcement mention anything about aol email? I tried searching for it on usajobs but the announcement did not come up. I have a hard copy at home but am currently on the road. I could have sworn i read something that cautioned against using AOL email.

The assessments section cautioned against using AOL and others as an ISP. I used foxfire for the assessments. That may be what you remember.

I didn't notice this until just now looking through the application again, but it doesn't look good for people appealing on the basis of not receiving the e-mail. Hopefully OPM will be more lenient than suggested in the announcement.
"Note: It is important to notify OPM about your availability and changes to your contact information during the examination process and while you are on the register. OPM is not responsible for an applicant's non-receipt of official notifications due to outdated or inaccurate contact information concerning the applicant (i.e., email address), spam blockers or other email filters."

It's interesting if there was some warning about not using AOL specifically. I didn't notice it. Thanks to all for the info, though. In the future I will not use an AOL address for anything important that might be a mass email response. I had no idea of course of this issue. They still should have listed on USA jobs the status of the application as "email sent" like the first email acknowledgement of receipt of the application. If the process is meant to filter out applicants (including very qualified people) then yay, good for you ALJ management... Mission accomplished! Ironically I would be in a better position if I forgot to list info on the application and got dinged because I wasn't qualified. Typical government glitches.... But in the real world, apparently having an AOL address is very out of vogue anyhow... It just might be the universe telling me to stay at my current government job at least until another announcement goes out in two years!
