Yesterday I completed the SJT and Writing Sample. I did the latter in one sitting and it TIMED out at 35:00 mins. Instead of going to the certification page, however, it went to a "BEGIN ASSESSMENTS" page again. I was really confused so I clicked it and the clock started again then timed out and went to the cert page (which I have not checked). I immediately contacted the ALJ Application Team Help desk as well as the USA Jobs Help desk, and they opened a ticket for me. This was at 2:30 p.m. May 8 and I wanted to know if my TIMED out essay was automatically saved or whether it was GONE. Since that time, I have received approximately 1,000 email notifications from them stating they are working on a response. I think I may be stuck in some sort of robotic automatic notification system. Does anyone know a more direct way to contact anyone? I saw a phone number on the HELP desk thread, but that number does not work.
Thanks so much for any assistance you may provide.

It seems from all the responses I have seen on the Boards that your only recourse is through email. There are several email addresses and hopefully you have sent one to each. It was clearly an error in their system as if your response wasn't saved and you had to start over. I am sorry for this stressing issue to happen to you. Please make sure you finish the rest of the assessment prior to the deadline as at least you have proof of reporting the issue. If you don't finish all three sections you will be issued a NOR of "ineligible". Hence, better save than sorry and at least finishing all three sections with your helpdesk ticket being open. Good luck!

According to help desk info someone else got and posted on one of the other threads, the ONLY time the essay is automatically saved is if the clock runs out. So, you should be OK there. Will it let you start the experience assessment portion? Might as well get that done now.

Thank you for your kind responses. I really appreciate it! I decided that I was tired of being in limbo so I clicked the certification page and moved on given time constraints and the possibility of being considered "ineligible." At least it is documented and I have 700 notifications from the ALJ Application desk between yesterday and today. Maybe one day -- I will hear something. In the meantime, I am going to complete the third portion of the assessment.

When you go to the opening page of the assessments, does it show that you completed the essay portion, with a date, etc., like it does for the SJT?

It showed the essay was not complete until I clicked the certification page. Now it says it is complete as of today, when I clicked it.

I had a similar problem. You are not alone. I lost a 325 word essay when the system deleted my essay instead of saving it. I had to improvise to get through to section 3 with only a few minutes left. I will lose points on the writing sample due to a technical issue that I don't believe was my problem. I did request help from the Help Desk. Only response was an acknowlegement of my request and indication that they were researching the issue.

FYI: I did finally receive an e-mail from an actual person on May 13, 2013 stating they were "researching" the issue with my writing sample. I completed the assessment on May 9 and stopped receiving e-mails that afternoon, but my husband actually counted 700 emails from the HelpDesk (which I have saved in a folder) in a 24-hour period. I guess I can only wait and see, but I anticipate OPM moving at a glacial pace.
