Many have stated that they have had no notice one way or the other as to whether they are moving on to the WD/LBMT/SI for the upcoming register process. What if.... Since it has been said that there have been occasions where there was a current cert and a new register process going on at the same time (see this thread aljdiscussion.proboards.com/post/41510 ). And what if the powers that be knew that there would be some overlap between those on the current cert who are also in the process moving forward. And if those overlapping individuals are hired off this cert, that would leave potential spots for more people to attend the WD/LBMT/SI??? What if there are a few folks in limbo with no notice because they (OPM) are waiting to see if they can squeeze in a few more once those overlapping people get hired? Looking for a silver lining for the people in limbo. Then again, this may be pure bunny trail nonsense.

The people in limbo are there due to some OPM glitch in sending notices, or some problem with the recipients' email. IMO, there is NO relationship between the current cert, which is completely under the control of SSA, and the new testing by OPM, which is completely under OPM's control. OPM is not waiting to give these people notice until they see who gets hired by SSA. It just doesn't work that way. Bunny trail nonsense, I'm afraid. While I'll defer to Val that the two things may have been happening before at some point, it was not happening in 2009-10, which was the last refresh of the register. That's one of the reasons the initial hire in 2010-11 was so big-- there hadn't been a cert in quite a while, and new offices were opening.

Thanks observer53, I figured as much but wanted to throw it out there. I can see that OPM would have to somehow "know" that those who will be hired off the current cert would no longer need to be in the current process. That would involve communication between SSA & OPM about specific individuals, and I doubt that takes place as you note. I am not in this situation at all but was looking for an answer for those who are without any notice at all. My guess about the missing notice situation is quite simple and likely a spam / accidental deletion issue--rather than this convoluted bunny trail.
