Reaching back to the original question...there are a veritable host of outstanding reasonably priced dining options in DC and in the relative area of the testing site. Its a question of how much effort you want to expend in getting there from your hotel. I would consider Old Ebbet's Grill on 15th, a few blocks up from the White House. Make reservations! I believe that they make the best Cosmopolitan's in DC - if you imbibe. Old style elegance, outstanding service and varied reasonably priced menu. This place is well worth the walk or cab ride.

I was told that the "million man march" is this same week in DC. I'm going to plan my travel times and cab times accordingly. I have a feeling it is going to be very crowded! Just an FYI.

So I am sure there will be as many protesters against the march as participants of the march. May cause problems trying to get a cab. Just my luck.

Yep, there is supposedly a "Miilion Motorcycle Riders" March to combat the other march. Good luck lurker. I am glad I am done before the 11th.

Into the Million Muslim March and counter biker rally. Staying at a hotel not far from the mall where all of this will occur. Testing on 9/12 and my SI on Friday the 13th. If luck is what we are depending on....i think the cosmos just sent a pretty clear sign it aint with us.

The bikers were just in DC over Memorial Day Weekend (we were leaving as most of them were arriving and MD is a recurring visit for as long as I can remember -- rolling thunder). During that time, they are generally well behaved except for the motorcycle noise. I feel for all of you who will be testing that week. Maybe if good ole funky just buys a few rounds for the bikers (not too many, not too few, but just riiiiight) the moon and stars will come into perfect alignment. Good luck.

funky, I'm in your boat. I test on the 11th and interview on the 12th. But I am flying in on September 8th and flying out Sept 14--tickets were nearly $200 cheaper to fly from Sunday to Saturday and my husband is going with me. The night of the 11th, we need to get together for a drink(s), or the night of the 12th would be good, too. Either one is good with me.
Bikers don't scare me. Muslims don't scare me. It's the combination of the two and the crowd that makes me worried. I don't plan on walking anywhere that isn't absolutely necessary.

I'm not scared. Not the type to be scared. It's the possible delays in travel that worry me. Perhaps a 15 min commute may turn into an hour commute. That's my concern. Though I'm going to be completely optimistic and say that nothing is going to happen and all is going to work out perfectly and I will score perfectly....I'm changing my name to optimistic!

Y'all will be fine. I'm speaking off the cuff with no knowledge of where all these marches and bike rides will take place but generally things like that take place on the Mall and the test sites were not near (in relative terms for such a small town) the Mall. If you're booked in a hotel within walking distance of the sites, you're in GWU land and I'd imagine you'll not be affected. Then again, to paraphrase Richard Bach, everything I've said may be wrong. But I wish you all smooth sailing that busy week!

I am glad you are not scared because you certainly have no reason to be. Washington has controversial mega-rallies every month, sometimes 2 or 3 times per month. Everyone was terrified of "the Million Man March," and absolutely nothing happened. D.C. sets the standard when it comes to world-class security. Enjoy the town and the excitement while you are here. For the next couple of weeks, it is Restaurant Week in D.C.! You can save big bucks and enjoy the best D.C. has to offer. Good luck to all. Funkyodar - p.m. me.

Don't worry about the March or Rolling Thunder, except that a lot of stuff around the Mall will be congested. This stuff goes on practically weekly in DC. It's no big deal safety-wise. Metro gets crowded, streets get closed, that's about it.
Good food and bar near Embassy: West End Bistro in the Ritz; Meiwah at 22 and M; Grillfish sucks; Vidalia on M between 21 and 22nd is a great restaurant; Raskia at corner of M and New Hampshire (very nearby) is GREAT; there's a Bobby Flay Burgers on M at around 19th or 20th; Pizza Paradiso is great and close by at Dupont Circle and P street (ask the desk, they'll know);Ris, also at the Ritz, on the other side of the building. Good luck all.

So it looks like the 11th is a popular day for those of use responding to this tread.. If not to early, perhaps suggest a meeting place and time for the 11th. Say, one of the hotel lobbies at 6ish. I am at Embassy but have no problem walking to a different hotel

I am at the Embassy as well. 6 works for me. Is there a better time or place for anyone else?

You guys may have to tell me where to meet and i come a lil later. With my ETA with the flight and liklihood of cab/traffic issues, not sure i will get to the hotel in time to be at Embassy at 6.

I'm getting a bit tired of this "Million Muslim March" crap. This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest oratorical moments in modern American history. Ther is no "Muslim March" that I know of; there are a series of commemorative events.

Then maybe you should do a quick google and see that there is such a march planned for the day in question.
