Curious to know if anyone is planning to attend the Orlando conference in September? I am seriously considering it but have not made reservations or definite plans yet. No doubt there will be great CLE and information, even if the chances of becoming an ALJ in the near future are slim!

No doubt there will be great CLE and information, even if the chances of becoming an ALJ in the near future are slim! I wish I could, but I am doing my WD/LBMT and SI on the dates of the conference. I am glad I didn't register early for it because just my luck my testing was scheduled for those dates. I, like you, thought the agenda for it was excellent and I probably would have attended it.

AALJ one is October 1 through October 3. I think the Santa Fe one would be of more interest to SSA ALJ's and almost all ALJ's are SSA. There will undoubtably be discussion of the Union Contract and the union lawsuit..

There will undoubtably be discussion of the Union Contract and the union lawsuit.. The only difference is that non-ALJ's can attend the FALJC conference, but not the AALJ conference. So, I do agree if I was an ALJ I would attend the AALJ one too, I cannot do so as a non-ALJ at this time.

Nice. They will finish Santa Fe just in time to go down to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta.

Am registered, still up in the air a bit if I'm actually going. How could it not help your chances of getting hired? Granted, for other (than SSA) Agencies scores matter, but these are some of the folks who do the hiring.

Everything may work out just fine!

I joined FALJC a few years after I started at SSA and am glad I did. There are a number of SSA judges in FALJC, and sometimes there is SSA involvement in the annual conference (this year AALJ President Frye is on one of the panels). However, the majority of FALJC members are judges with other agencies. That, frankly, is one of the reasons I joined, and attend the annual conference whenever I can. At my first conference I found it refreshing to have a couple of days a year to step back from preoccupation with grids and listings and RFCs. I also enjoy meeting judges from other agencies. All in all I find that both the social time and the seminar sessions broaden my professional outlook.
For years FALJC held its conference in beach resorts near DC. Starting last year (New Orleans) and this (Orlando) they are going farther afield. I believe that this is the first year that they have invited non-ALJs, and I will be interested to see how many take them up on it.

Does the Agency give you duty time for the FALJ conference like they do for the AALJ Conference?

Does the Agency give you duty time for the FALJ conference like they do for the AALJ Conference? I believe for most Agencies the answer is yes--aka "admin time". SSA may be the exception, I don't know.

Did anyone actually go to the conference this week and want to post a trip report or any good info they can pass along to the rest of us? Thanks ahead of time.
