Oftentimes, the hearing office is the last to know about the pending arrival of a new judge. That is why it is always a good idea for the new hire to contact the HOCALJ ASAP.

Yep, to Bartleby and oldschool. At my prior ODAR, I would inform the HOCALJ who had been hired by coming to this board, and if the new hire had contacted me by PM, inform him/her to contact the HOCALJ.

Just an FYI about the phone calls...they do NOT always make the offer on the voicemail. When I received my offer 2 years ago, I received a voicemail on my work phone despite the fact I said my cell phone was the best way to reach me. The message simply said this is someone from personnel and please call this number back...I called back immediately and got that person's voicemail, so I had to wait in agony for her to return my call and make the offer. Plus, not everyone accepts the offer immediately (or at all), so they also have to wait a few days for some people to accept or decline. Good luck to all of you waiting...I remember how agonizing this process was, but the job was truly worth the wait for me.

I am with you patiently. It is too early to say that our wait is all done. For those of you who have only just joined the group in 2013, many of us have been on several lists of certified candidates (the cert) and have already been through parts 1,2 and 3 from an application process starting in, well I think 2008, or for some 2009? Correct me, oldsters, if my memory fails me. We have done the OPM interview and the ODAR interview. The cert we are now on was pulled in March from the old register, but the sequestration caused hiring authority to be suspended. So, now, right now, we are waiting on THE CALL. I empathize with all of you and your journey. Send good thoughts for us, please, we have been waiting several years! We can use all the good luck we can get. Thank you everyone. I hope I have a golden ticket. Well said goldenticket! Thanks to everyone who has contributed their thoughts:)

Oftentimes, the hearing office is the last to know about the pending arrival of a new judge. That is why it is always a good idea for the new hire to contact the HOCALJ ASAP. This is good advice and has been posted repeatedly in years before. If you get an offer and accept, the advice has been to call the HOCALJ and introduce yourself. Let them know you are coming. Its always important to make a good first impression. Also, one would think this is the part of the HOCALJ job that he/she likes and you want to ensure that they are properly empowered and respected.

How do I find out who the HOCALJ IS? is it on a website? The basic hearing office locator is here: www.ssa.gov/appeals/ho_locator.htmlThey do not publicize the direct extensions of the judges anywhere on purpose, but if you call the main office number ask to speak to the Chief ALJ and also then to the HOD (as a courtesy). Congrats!

Oh well ... life goes on! It sure does. Thanks to all on this Board; my online support group for all things ALJ. I've let my friends and family know it didn't happen and am fielding condolence e-mails as if somebody had passed away. I know I am not alone in thinking that this cert was "now or never" which makes it all the harder. It's been six long years and I am beyond tired. Patience is a virtue, but maybe a slightly overrated one in the Thunderdome. Take care and Peace Out for now! P, I too did not receive the call. But, it's okay. I do think that things happen for a reason that we sometimes only realize later. It's all good:)

How do I find out who the HOCALJ IS? is it on a website? If you like classical music, and especially classical piano, you will fit right in. The HOCALJ is a classically trained pianist, who is from Kentucky. I will try and remember to get his phone number and send that and his name to you in a PM Monday evening. Might want to wait until you get a report date before you call him. I will also send you the HOD's name. You are in for a tremendous culture shock. I don't know what part of NY you are from, but Middlesboro will be unlike anything you have ever seen, irrespective of where in NY you have been. Not saying that in a bad way, but just that it will be different for you, very different. Congratulations.

ALJ, thank you so very much for the info and for getting me further info next week. I am from the NYC area, so I guess u r right that I will go thru culture shock but as I said previously, I'm trying to look at it as an adventure. Plus, in the long run its what's best for my family. Maybe we will even love it and not want to return, I'm open to that. I just need to find a place to live that is safe and kind of bigger bc my babies, my mom all coming! These next few months will be chaos!!!!

I love cmet8's attitude. Alas, we "lost" again, but it is all good. I am happy for all those who were selected and I trust you will do us proud. I scored an 83 but made the mistake of over-limiting my GAL. Guess I wanted it a little more than I thought I did.

It sounds like some good people didn't make it through the cert or the new register. I'm sad for the claimants more than anything.
