I ran a half marathon and a full marathon this month, and the training was a welcome distraction from all things ALJ. Now what to do to distract myself in November? This Board has offered up suggestions in the past. My daughter recommended "Sons of Anarchy" on Netflix. For those who have "HBOGo there is "The Wire". Good stuff. So is Plymouth gin over ice with a twist. Recommended by John MacDonald and his Travis McGee.

Winter Olympics start in 75 days! Can't wait for the curling competition. That's my idea of sport-sweeping the ice with a broom.

For the past two weeks, I've had Tom Petty's "The Waiting" bouncing around in my head. USN, great TP reference. I have contemplated to use it myself. Truly, the waiting is the hardest part. Keep rockin'.

congrats baglady. you are an inspiration to us all. it is all i can do to handle the "ALJ marathon!" we focus on the process because we know it will take our strongest competitive skills and alot of luck to land the position. but there is so, so much more to life, and running an actual marathon is a great path to health and happiness. as for november, it is the season of thanksgiving, so we are looking at the places that will most need our help. i feel i can make a difference there as opposed to my alj prospects. i can't do marathons but maybe i will look into a 2K fun run/walk! Thank you, Epic, for your great suggestion. I've signed up to volunteer at the local food bank (something I've been meaning to do for some time now), and might participate in a Turkey Trot at the end of the month just for kicks and giggles.

How do you get them to trot? Everytime I ride a turkey, it wants to canter.

Now what to do to distract myself in November? baglady, I'm grateful for the mutual inspiration society we've established on the board. in part based on your post, i "visited" my home gym for the first time in years this past weekend. what a discovery! there's alot of stuff down there but i spent most of the time just sitting on the floor, watching the yoga dvds, and stretching. its pretty bad when yoga stretches make you out of breath! i'm now back out walking and hoping to work myself up to an occasional sprint. marine corps marathon was this past weekend and all i could do was admire from afar. then again, Oprah did it so . . .

I'm not sure about the rest of you but I personally do not dress my turkey, rather I stuff it with stuffing. (Which according to food snobs maybe you shouldn't do.) And for keeping distracted, there are other ways to torture myself these days. OPM and SSA don't have a monopoly on that. Try advising someone on their health care options. I'm about to take my umpteenth training on state and federal health care programs.

Wasn't life so much easier without options? Oh those happy simpler days when I just didn't have to think of health insurance options because with a child with epilepsy I had no options. To be able to go back to those days when i had to close my private practice putting several people out of work so i could take a gov job with guaranteed health coverage. Damn Obama giving me actual choices...
