I think the stress of the process is getting to us all. I noticed a huge shift in the temperament of the board, hostile and nasty at times. I contributed (no doubt) by some of my comments (defending exjag for schooling the new guy) etc. So I am not saying I am not guilty of contributing to the tone. Maybe we can all try to shift our focus and attempt to be encouraging as we once were rather than nit picking at semantics and details. Lets make lurkers feel welcome and not fearful that if they post something less than stellar they will get flogged. The "stay off my lawn" comments resonated with me....we (and I do mean "we") became that person yelling out the screen door! LOL! I hope we can leave the political discussions out of the mix too. We are all opinionated and love to argue....hence why we are all attorneys. But I think we all need a "reset" button back to civility. Peace to all and good luck to those who have yet to test! The NORs will be out before we know it.

Hear, hear sratty. Well stated and I do agree wholeheartedly with your post and it intent. I wish all who have yet to test good luck and I wish those who have already tested that they acquire the great NOR they were hoping to achieve.

Civility and calmness can spread like a contagion, just as incivility and "less than calmness".
Judicial temperment - got to get me some of that.

Thank you sratty. Remember the focus of this board - the ALJ process, the testing, the waiting, the marathon. I hope next year we can all move the discussion to "life as an ALJ" and the "what do you when ___ happens in a case?" threads. Then of course we will all meet in Falls church - as Eliza Doolittle said, "wouldn't that be loverly". As Yoda would say, OPM is the Empire, and we are the rebels, so fight amoungst us, no.

I am sure I don't come across in my "emails" as I would like to sometimes. Sitting here in DC doing my last run through, Ace's comments made me smile thinking of my own perception of "judicial temperament!" I hope that WHEN I goof up, I can get a re-set from the judge! Grudges can get very heavy.
Have a great day, People. Now I just have to find the TR OPM Courthouse. I'm gonna crush it when I do...

I have noticed that it has been difficult getting back into the swing of things since I returned home from DC. I know the likelihood of getting hired is almost zero, that I have to work my files and meet with my clients. But, I almost feel like I did when I was waiting for bar results. Even if I never get hired, it's the waiting for the scores that I think is the most difficult task. That all being said, we/I have to try to get things back to the way things once were. You people on here are the only ones who can relate to the process, the experiences, and my current situation. I need you all for support, as I think that is what this fine group of people are best at doing.

As ALJD noted on May 9, 2007,"Hi everyone,
This board was created to promote the civilized exchange of information related to ALJ hiring after the trolls infested the old board (aka TOB) back in 2007. Pix and I started this board with the goal to keep it relatively civil and clean of trolls.
The goal here is to promote the free exchange of ideas while avoiding gross personal attacks or pointless flames."
We insiders have been under a great deal of stress and the situation in D.C. is about to push us over the edge. The newbies are about to go crazy with the new testing situation. We are all about to go crazy. In this mess, we must remember, all we have is each other. No one outside of our circle understands almost anything we are going through. I wish all of the newbies the best of luck and I encourage the insiders to remember that this too, shall pass. Let's all stay strong for each other as we never know how bad it is for that individual reading these on that particular moment and how much help they may be needing. If anyone needs anything particular or just a word of encouragement, just send me a message and I will try to help. A lot of the Judges are going to Sante Fe next week for the Union conference and I hope we will have a lot of good stuff to dissiminate when we return. I check the Board often, so don't feel like you are inconveniencing me if you need anything. Stay thirsty my friends.

Thanks, bartleby. Calls to mind that old quote, (attributed to several people, from Plato (!) to Ian McLaren to.....):
"Always be kind, as everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
Looking forward to reports from the AALJ conference.

Everything in Santa Fe is WAY overpriced but I do like to eat at The Palace Restaurant and Saloon. At least you get good value for your money there. www.palacesantafe.com/

I know the likelihood of getting hired is almost zero, that I have to work my files and meet with my clients. I feel exactly the same way, Lurker. I thought at first it was because I tested during my vacation, and that I just had "vacation slump" upon returning to the office. But it lingered, and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. On a positive note, what's everyone doing to help keep the stress at bay? I'm training for a marathon (actually, running a half and then a full in October), and I credit the many, many miles under my sneakers with keeping me somewhat sane. The wine helps, too.

Even if it is a bunch of ALJ's who sat in on SI's who might shed some general light on what they thought this selection process brought in versus previous processes.

Once we get results then we have the stress of what does our NOR "mean" but right now its just limbo and not the fun kind with music and umbrella drinks.

I remember what it was like the first time around. It's hard not to think about it, for sure, but you have to get it off the front burner(s). For those of you who are done with the testing, there's nothing more you can do. Go about your life, your job, your family, your friends. In the end, this is just a job opportunity. A very good one, indeed, but a very small part of what you are and what you have in your life. Step away from the board for a while, if that helps. For those of us who have been on this merry go round for a while, there's less urgency. Maybe that, and some familiarity with two thirds of the phase 3 process, will make next week less stressful for me and others similarly situated.

I have never been accused of being a patient person, for sure. But I had honestly thought I had found some patience in this process. And I didn't have nearly this much impatience through the other phases. Maybe it's because I know that this is essentially the tell-tale of whether this could be a possible opportunity. I'm sure I will stress over what the NOR will mean. But I think just having a score will be comforting. Just having a result will comforting, I think.
Btw, yoga is a wonderful stress reliever. I have been so busy that I haven't been since I got back from DC. Maybe that's why I'm so obsessive. Idk.

We have every reason to feel positive. At this point, the die has already been cast, or it soon will be. If the die is not cast, then you are fortunate to still have time to prepare. If it is done - what a relief! I am the one who was attacked for stating my belief that nearly half of those on the register will get selected. For those who have a wide-open GAL, I would bet the odds are better than half. If those numbers hold up, we have even greater reason for feeling positive. Someone else posted recently that over 400 attorneys applied for an attorney position in their office. That is what happened in our office, recently, too. Against that reality, how can we not feel positive? I will keep lurking because I am obsessed at this point. Good job and good luck, my friends!

Lurker does yoga, I do Pilates and walk/hike. Gets my mind off of the roller coaster I am constantly riding. I thought that all I needed to worry about was being separated from my spouse by a few states but he has a career that is in high demand and is once again being recruited for a job on a different continent. This process has been stressful to say the least -- a hurry up and wait time frame at every step. And as has been said by others, the uncertainty of DC continues to weigh on all of us. But Team Oracle just won the America's Cup and they were behind 8 to 2 when I got to see them race last week. No one thought they could pull it off but they did. And so can we. Those of us on this board have a passion for this position that I don't think others may have and whether or not we agree on every little detail really doesn't matter in the long run. At least I hope not. Here's to seeing all of you on the other side.
