Does anybody know what the staff to ALJ ratio is at the existing offices? How many of those positions would likely be ALJs and how many other staff? This would be very good news and I will gladly go to the north coast or most anywhere else in crapland. When they added new SSA offices in the past did they offer people on the register the opportunity to add the new office to their GAL?

The way I read it, they were requesting 7 new ALJ "teams," which included one ALJ each, plus other staff. So it looks like only 7 ALJ positions.

This congress wouldn't fund more NLRB positions but that doesn't mean they wouldn't fund more OMHA appeals. The recipients of those disputed funds are hospitals, physicians, and medical supply companies. There are constituents who can't get treatment but there are also big money recipients at play. Agreed. I think if you were to extend your argument you could say: "look at the constituency affected by more hires." Do Republicans tend to be concerned with SSA Claimants? Do they care about the Hospitals or arguing against SEC enforcement or Mine Safety penalties? I think you know the answer...

We must not enter into political discourse on this Board.. OK. I will try to non-political. However, there was a time not long ago where the ALJ Corps could count on friends and allies on both sides of the aisle. Members of Congress put their constitutional allegience and legal training and experience above knee-jerk political posturing. My gosh, just look at the beating federal employees have taken of late. And can we forget the federal Art. III Judges? They had to sue to get what was promised to them--and where are their raises? No, my friends, my points were more directed to what I saw as political naiveté. My oath to support and uphold the Constitution includes (IMHO) fighting to uphold both the Art I and Art III judiciary against domestic enemies. That having been said, I will follow the lead of my old friend deltajudge and try to be on the straight and narrow.

Privateatty, I must concur with you, it does seem to be a continual fight and I have been disappointed in the lack of respect and support federal employees have been receiving. I pray the pendulum will soon begin a swing back the other way.

8-)Bart and privateatty, with republicans fighting republicans, democrats running for the woods, Obama taking selfies for the world to see, I think federal employees are way down the list of priorities of those inside the beltway. My main concern as privateatty said, is keeping a low profile. Ruffled to many feathers in the past.
