What's a good score? I have never posted but this forum seems to know a lot. Also I really only put places around GA and DC as my choices. Was that bad? First, let me say congratulations to everyone who got a score and moved on to the next stage of this crazy dance. And my condolences to those who didn't. Don't give up. Try again whether via appeal or the next round of testing. If it's meant to be, it will happen sooner or later. As for score range, based on ALJD's poll in the polling forum, I would guess the following: Great score = 80 or higher Highly Competitive = 75 or higher Competitive = 70 or higher OK = 65 or higher The new bottom = lower than 65 From an absence of scores in the 40-50 range, it appears OPM is really serious this time about minimum cut-offs. Brave new world indeed. As for GALs, it's usually the wider the better. If you have a really high score (80 or more), a small GAL isn't a real problem if SSA really wants you. But if you have a low score, a small GAL may well be the kiss of death.

Congratulations to everyone who got a score. I am humbled to be among you. I know that many worthy individuals did not receive scores. You are in my thoughts and I'm sure you will prevail in the future. So, what actually happens next? I was just reading the thread on part I of this process. It appears there will be a certificate but does that come before or after references are requested? How long did the last register stick around for (the dates in the thread seem pretty old)? How many certs came out of it? And remind me, do people on the register ever get a chance to change their GAL after a few certs? I'm sorry if this info is posted elsewhere. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Could someone explain the definition of "SD" please? People keep posting that they were "SD"; for the life of me, I can't figure out what they're talking about. There were status changes back in December on USA Jobs, some changed to "complete" and others changed to "see details" (SD). At earlier phases, a change to SD usually meant that person was getting eliminated at that stage. This time, it seems to also be the case, although one person said his status was "complete" and he did not make the register.

I got a NOR that says my bar status is inadequate. But I am an active member of the bar. Someone got one like that last time around -- missing their date of admission. Appealed, won, I think they are now an ALJ. I got the same thing. I even have a certificate of good standing. Looks like appeals will be filed.... Good luck to you!

The last "refresh' of the old register was completed in 2010. Several certs. You can see how many certs on the timeline thread. OPM did allow a GAL change in 2012. Whether they will do it again no one knows, but I'm not expecting it for a couple of years if at all.

The 2007 register was reopened for applications for about 48 hours in November 2009, those people who made the register from that group went on the register in May 2010. The reopening of an existing register is a "refresh" unlike this time around, which is a new register.

Well, I think I'm going to sign off for now. This board made enduring the process a lot easier. Good luck to all those that made it through to the register, I am amazed at the quality of candidates on this board. In particular, good luck to Funky. I'm about as confident that you will be styling the black robe as I was that I bombed the WD (at least I called it). I probably won't be checking the board much when you do get the nod, so here you go. The funkiest judicial song for the funkiest guy I know. Hope this link works.

Last time, it was only TWELVE DAYS from the NOR date to the Notification to ALJ Candidate of the first cert off the refreshed 2010 register. I'm guessing maybe a bit longer this time, but not much.

Well, I made it... my score falls, unfortunately, below the third quartile, BUT matches the street number of the house that I grew up in (and, interestingly enough, the number after the decimal point matches the street number of the house we moved to after that...). The canary in my coal mine yet breathes... although its heart was seriously strained by seeing that e-mail come in first thing this morning.
I have been lurking on this board since 2010 and posting since last summer. I feel as if I've come to know all of you, after a fashion, and I went through the messages in this particular thread with rapidly alternating feelings of pride and shock/horror. They really eliminated some high-quality candidates this time around and it's kind of hard to fathom. I am humbled to have made this advanced stage, even if only just. Hoping against hope that my GAL being sufficiently broad to win me the chance to meet some of you in Training, but, even if this is as far as I get, you have all earned my deepest respects! (Even that suspicious Mr. Knuf character...)

Congratulations to everyone going on to next round. I don't even know what my score is, but I was informed that my score in the Situational Judgment Test (SJT), Writing Sample, and Experience Assessment is not within the range of the higher scored sub-group. Guess I am a bigger dumb ass than first believed. So you were not invited to DC for the last phase of testing? This shows that those who were eliminated at earlier phases are getting their official NORs now as well. Let the appeals begin. And, a bit of advice to anyone who might be thinking about appealing the score they got, which is also permitted. An appeal can result in a LOWER score too. Yarddog can confirm a different 2nd phase applicant that got cut received notice of not getting a NOR. (I suppose they will get appeal email like me at some point in the future. The Friday theory arises again....)

Finally NORs...now the waIting begins! But, hey, we're getting good at that! Congrats to everyone! And heartfelt thanks thanks to those who dared enough to try. Now you know the process so keep on trying if that is what you really desire!

Any chance of a poll or other info on openings or requested locations? My score is right in the range of most, it seems, and all my locations are in Michigan plus one Ohio. I'm curious how that will affect my chances. As others have said, there's no way of knowing yet. But as far as limited GALs go, you've got a good one. I believe offices on MI and OH show up on nearly every cert.

For those of you who got cut--I send along my best wishes and condolences. Good luck with the appeal process! There are way, way too many quality people who seem very arbitrarily passed over in this process.
For those of you who wish your NOR was higher--Sorry, but try not to worry too much. I have been an ALJ for 26 months. I have heard of a now-ALJ who got picked up, eventually, although her NOR was in the 40s. I was OK with my NOR, but did not get picked up right away. I had my ODAR interview and, after awhile, perhaps because of my very limited GAL, I got a "thanks, but no thanks" email from the good folks in HR. I was bummed. Yet, three months later, I WAS hired! Go figure! And for the next year plus, people with lower NORs than I had continued to be hired by the Agency.
Don't give up the ship! Never say die! As my teenage sons would say, "Man up!"
Congratulations to those of you awaiting your interviews!
Best, Hamster

As others have said, there's no way of knowing yet. But as far as limited GALs go, you've got a good one. I believe offices on MI and OH show up on nearly every cert. And I agree - the best "geographically" limited GALs (I know, if you look in the dictionary under "redundant", it says, "see redundant"), in my mind would be Michigan/Ohio, Kentucky/WV, or something like Louisiana/MS/East Texas or MS/AL/GA/TN. Almost any other limitation starts to choke you off from offices with regular vacancies (at least from more than 1 or 2) - and no way to really land close and work your way home. I'm ready to see the vacancy list before I scratch anything off.

I got a notice that my written demonstration test did not meet the minimum required score. I am an experienced judge and my colleagues scored 75 and higher. Any idea what IMWD means and how to appeal? Is there any possibility of prevailing on appeal?

So I am little late to the thread, but I was busy with my Girl Scout Troop last night, and quite frankly I had given up hope of getting anything in my inbox for months - then BAM! There it was! A decent score, and now hoping that one of my (too) few cities gets pulled for a cert and I get on that cert. Time to start taking my references out to lunch!! Congrats to all who made it through, and don't give up if you didn't make it this time. It sounds like quite a few of you have a good basis for appeal, and you should 'go for it'.

I see my score but don't know if its good or bad. How do you know what a good score is? I saw someone had mentioned they were in the top third but how can you tell without a rating?
