First time poster here. I submitted my 10-pt vet app a few days ago through the secure portal and it said the same sort of "the closed ALJ examination for 10-point preference eligibles not later than the quarterly period succeeding that in which the application is filed" message. Is the next quarterly period set for Jul-Sep, or is the next quarterly period some other block?
Thanks!
Lo

The quarters are Oct-Dec, Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, July-Sep. When you file your 10-point application, OPM has until the end of the NEXT quarter to administer the on-line portion of the exam, assuming you advance. In my experience (twice now) they WILL wait until the very end (ie: very last day) of that next quarter to either FOAD you or give you the secret email link to the online portion. This is a waiting game like nothing else you've ever experienced.
Best of luck.

Thanks, sir. From what I've read and discussed with other ALJs recently through the process, I figured it would take approximately forever and a day to get a response, so end of September is a good bookend/target to keep in mind.

I got pretty rapid responses back in August of last year. My theory is that the timing is impacted by whether they're still in process with another public job announcement cluster, or only doing 10-point vets. My timeline: I applied as a 10-point vet in mid-August 2017. Got invitation in Sep. On line component window straddled Sep-Oct. DC testing in person was Nov. My testing group got Notice of Results (NOR) 14 Feb 2018. Solid 6 months from sending back my application packet to NOR. From what I've seen posted on this board, I think the timing that I experienced was the fastest possible timeline for getting on the register.

Bayou--since this is my third bite at the apple, I think my tie is the only thing I've done right. I don't think I've worn it since I tested with the class of 2016. Time to dust it off.

Can someone translate the below screenshotted email and following paragraph I received from OPM from OPM-inese to English? Remember, submitting your answers to the assessment questionnaire does not complete your application package.A000 The ALJ JOA also requires that you submit a resume to support your responses.A000 You must submit documentation of your entitlement to Veterans1920 Preference if you wish to claim such preference.A000 In addition, you must submit your case listing if you choose to exercise that option.A000 Submitting your answers to the assessment questionnaire and completing the application package also may not complete the examination process.A000 You may be asked to complete other assessment components, as appropriate.A000 To ensure you receive appropriate consideration for this position, please read and follow the instructions in the ALJ JOA carefully. If you would also like to check the transmission of your supporting documents, log into your USAJOBS account. I followed all the instructions and submitted my resume + vet info to OPM via email last month, and then resubmitted again with the completed OPM application via OPM's own "secure email" site a few weeks ago, as directed by OPM. I applied off-cycle as a 10-pt vet, so I don't have any corresponding USAJOBs entry. Does this mean I should expect an email link with the E-test components soon? Thanks a million!

If it were me, I would email the ALJ help desk email and ask them to confirm that your earlier submission of those documents was received.
I got some weird emails during the process, some of which were an obvious error and some of which made me wonder whether something was awry.
I recommend saying when you sent them, from what email address, and ask them to confirm receipt. I think they will confirm whether they received them already.

Update: It was indeed system-generated. Whoever drafted the response confirmed receipt of all docs, etc. The waiting resumes... Thanks again! By "all documents" do you mean a completed SF-15 along with a copy of your DD-214? If your answer is "yes," then you should be all set.

Sorry, usmccol et al.Under the Executive Order and OPM Memorandum of Tuesday, 10 July 2018, this process has reached its end. Ord. No. 13,843, 83 Fed. Reg. 32,755 (July 10, 2018), available at www.govinfo.gov/app/details/FR-2018-07-13/2018-15202 . Status of Existing ALJ Competitive Service Register OPM will terminate the existing competitive service ALJ register. Eligible candidates currently listed on the register will be notified in writing of the termination and the disposition of their candidacy. We will provide additional information on the termination of the register at a later date. chcoc.gov/content/executive-order-–-excepting-administrative-law-judges-competitive-service

Yeah, we fu**ed. (read in the voice of JB Smoove from Curb Your Enthusiasm)
In all seriousness, anything that moves us away from the prior system of landmines and traps to something more reasonable for everyone will be a good thing.
