What is the matter with you guys? THRILLER!!!!!! No question about it. And, I am guessing we are talking about the albums and not just the songs. But, either way Thriller wins hands down. Beside the fact that Thriller is still a great album to this day, it also broke down racial barriers in music (e.g. MTV). And, the music video was ground breaking work. Yes, I am a fan of the King of Pop. @ acemidnight No answer for the first two Bon Jovi Beatles BUT QUEEN OVER ALL OF THEM! I assumed we were talking about the songs. While I love MJ and think his greatness is overshadowed by the side show his life eventually became nothing he ever did compares to Prince. Prince is a musical genius. Also Queen is the second greatest Rock band of all time. The Stones just keep managing to put it out there.

We need to expand on valkyrie's drunks, chimps and trade schood dropouts. I mean, heck, when have you seen such unparalleled verbiage slathered across these pages? And a ODAR ALJ too.
I'll start it off. I see the ALJ as a benign drunk, an Arthur if you will, always quick with the obscure putdown no Claimant can understand and said with a smile so one always nods one's head--he/she is in a Black Robe after all. However, the office is acutely aware that at any given time he/she will do a swan dive and kiss the floor so that Judge enjoys office wide protection due in no small part to the parties he/she regularly throws in the Irish Pub down the street from the office--spending a $1000 a pop easy picking up tabs...

No, Gaidin, no. Say it ain't so. Prince compared to Michael is like comparing sparkling grape juice to champagne. Michael is the musical genius. For example, the song Smooth Criminal is really MJ saying "Annie are you ok?" over and over again. *lol* But, when you saw the video, him singing that over and over again made sense. Now, when I hear that song on the radio, I instantly think of the video and have imagery to accompany the song. MJ's ability to tie visual art with his music (which began with Thriller) shows he is the true genius.

Prince compared to Michael is like comparing sparkling grape juice to champagne. ... Just don't know where to begin with this... The similarities between the 2 men, and their almost direct competition with each other (despite producing fairly divergent music) drives this discussion. My bottom line up front - Prince is better. Both men gave phenomenal live performances. Prince is rightfully considered a higher order musical genius than MJ - precisely because he mastered so many instruments. MJ was a pop star, with a hint of R&B/Soul/Rock and Roll. Prince had R&B roots, too, but in the Funk (minus the yodar part) tradition, and is actually credited with the development and widespread popularity of the Minneapolis sound (and, let's face it, it was a flavor of funk - at the time, the only black people from Minnesota were Prince and Kirby Puckett - so figure out who gets the credit there). Michael Jackson was a continuation of the Motown tradition, nothing more. Obviously MJ's voice was better, clearer, more developed, but Prince can play almost any instrument that makes music - and do it very well. On the whole I have tried to separate and detach my preference for the songs that Prince produced, and I thought, at the time, they would have significantly more staying power than MJ, especially the oversold, overhyped and underwhelming Thriller album. In any situation, I am more likely to come down on the side of the act that is more guitar-oriented - it is no surprise that I do not own, nor am I fan of any of Michael Jackson's music (with the possible exception of Man in the Mirror), while I own several of Prince's albums. ETA: And, for the record, Alien Ant Farm crushed Smooth Criminal

I do not regret saying anything I posted last evening, nor do I retract any of it.
That said, I apologize to you guys and ALJD for lacking the restraint to keep from saying it. The most amazing thing about this board is the unusual comraderie that exists despite each member being experienced attorneys in competition with eachother. Thus, I do regret allowing myself to be part of the antithesis of that.
Now, to more important subjects....MJ was great, but no way red, zippered leather beats crushed purple velvet.

I'll go with MJ because he, like my beloved Chicago Cubs, wore a glove on one hand for no apparent reason.

I should not have fed the troll. But I did, and for that I apologize as well. I think everyone knows you (Funky) well enough to know that you meant no disrespect to ALJD or to the board. A lesson learned for me too....don't feed the trolls! LOL! Ok, now off to enjoy the rest of my day off and to put in some St. Augustine.....Have a good one everyone! Love the new entertainment. Much better vibe...

The interesting fact my brother is we had an entertaining exchange earlier in the thread, but we never got nasty with each other. There is a way to have a disagreement and exchange of ideas without resorting to personalities. You were fine my friend with your response to Tigerlaw because you were purposely called out and had to respond. You owe no apologies. You are the better person. I agree with you sratty it is best not to feed the trolls! You were fine last night, too. I didn't get involved again because I stated earlier in the thread I was done.

Ace, Michael was singing Soul/R&B/Rock & Roll when he was 6 years old. Prince was probably trying to learn what a microphone was at that age.

That's a good point BL. But Prince once used a phallic shaped guitar to cast a 30 ft tall shadow puppet during the superbowl. I still gotta say advantage the artist.

Nothing could compare to the Stones' "Satisfaction" in '65. My parents hated the Stones and tolerated The Beatles. It was Motown and the British Invasion and the world shifted on its axis.

Your continued denigration of one Prince Rogers Nelson conveniently forgets that he was a prodigy, as well - he wrote his first song, Funk Machine, at the age of 7.

"Funk Machine?" - I have no appropriate comment for this. Unrelated - Congrats on making the OMHA cert, Ace!

Don't worry about the troll, you did what needed to be done in that situation and if anyone is the lesser for the exchange, it would be Tigerlaw. On behalf of all of us on this board, your apology is accepted.
Why thank you tigerlaw (you do realize your new username still links to all your old posts, right?) Glad we agree on what went down. Sad (Congrats on the omha cert. God I hope you land that job.)

I was really wishing to get by on at least one or two posts before I got busted on changing the name, LOL!
Thanks for the encouragement... "God I hope you land that job", but I really do only want to work for ODAR and you and I will be best friends and enjoy many beers together one day! After all, I accepted your apology. Have a good weekend!

I'd love to be at the same poker table as 5 O'Clock Tigerlaw... I would just hand over my money and drink the beer, I suck at poker!

As I understand it, being bilingual would hugely up your chances. I'd be happy to pitch in for some Rossetta Stone for you tiger'clock somewhere.
