Bob is Bob Gehiken from ODAR Falls Church,Virginia who is the point person for SSA dealing with certs, hiring and other similar things. Bob will likely be the person calling you if you ever get hired as an ALJ.

I have to admit, I assumed all my cities on my limited GAL were crapland, yet none ended up on the cert (which means, as has been pointed out by others before, that my good, but not great, score may be all for naught). I am, however, hopeful that Funky's predicted list, which included two of my cities, will be fully realized. I am pretty sure we will see some different locations in the next set of certs from SSA. Although, some of the same old Crapland locations will make it again, there will be new locations making it too. Just realize that there may be others with a limited GAL that listed those same locations you listed and their NOR scores could be higher. (They likely were not picked up this time, just like you, because their limited locations were not on the cert list locations -- it is just a forewarning to you.) I quite frankly hope you do indeed make the next set of certs ok1956. Thank you, MPD! I hope that you do as well.....may our respective dreams of crapland come true.

Hey folks - Bob wrote me back, and I AM on the cert and I DIDN'T get the initial email! Thanks to all for the encouragement, I would have missed it entirely if not for this board. Holy s$&# trickbag, that's amazing! Congrats and get to work on your paperwork!

This is what I think of when I think of Bob:
I love those characterizations of Bob. Then again, if you never make a cert or never acquire a position your characterization of Bob might be somewhat different.

Thanks are particularly due to the anonymous source who provided the low score info from Bob G, which was valuable info in alerting at least two people to this problem in time to get their info in without relying on the followup contact. Good luck to everyone, including the new arrivals to the cert!

I second that about giving props to our anonymous source (I know who and I am not revealing it, but I did thank this person in a separate PM/email) that contacted Bob G. about the score for this cert. The one thing everyone should have learned on this Board is to always check your spam mail for possible notifications prior to deletion of the same. Good luck again to all on the certs.

Another important lesson: Collective knowledge is way better than individual ignorance! Thanks to all the collectors in our midst (you know who you are)!

I'm looking at it like this, making this first cert is an awesome thing, but I probably will be waiting till round 2 to get hired. On the good side, i'm an insider on a cert with few of them and i'm technically in contention for 38 cities. With only 168 people going for up to 90 slots, the odds are great for all certers. I have utmost faith in each person I have listed as a reference and vetted them thoroughly. Finally, I generally interview well. I may not have much chance at a highly rec, but I would be very surprised at a no rec. On the bad side, with the cert cut off score being 73.41, my score probably puts me in the 145 to 155 range of the 168. So, most likely on the tail end of each of the 38 cities i'm contending for. I really think this new process has done away with the whole "scores don't matter" methodology. Couple that with the high number of vets on the cert, and I think its very likely I will end up just filler and never really considered. So, being on this cert means I have a chance now. I can't imagine though that I would be 3 struck. So, I will get my interview out of the way, have an outside shot at one of these 90 and happily join the second certer club if I miss here. By then, many of the vets and people above me will be out of the way and my wide open gal will have me in contention for more cities on that cert. Just can't bomb the interview I'm gonna call you on this one, funky. BS. This is your job to lose. What I envision is that (like me and so many others in the past) you will go in threes to your interview "wing" of Puzzle Palace and there you will sit, sweat and stew with the two others. You will get to talking to the guy next to you and he will recognize you by the obvious recent shave of your beard and the feigned beatific look as he is the opposite-- a litigation tiger at bay. He will recognize your first. "Funky?" he asks. "Is it you, Tigerlaw", you reply. You feel your respective blood pressures rise. But then, bingo, you, funky, are called in the room. Don't discount the long arm of Karma. Both of you guys break a leg.

Its a mystery ... I checked my spam folder this weekend and there was nothing there. Checked again right after posting ... and it was there. Made it for all 9 cities. Ooops. Gotta get to work. Two obvious points. One, you owe the Board a thank you--we know who specifically. Two, keep rolling and pay forward. Your run may well have just started. Congratulations!

Thanks to afm for asking and moopigsdad for identifying the infamous "Bob"; I wasn't sure "bob" was real even though he has been helpful in sharing information. This board continues to educate as well as provide (much needed) moral support!

Hey folks - Bob wrote me back, and I AM on the cert and I DIDN'T get the initial email! Thanks to all for the encouragement, I would have missed it entirely if not for this board. Trickbag or anyone else on here who could help - What is "Bob's" contact information? I am in the situation where my NOR is higher than the cutoff and I have seen some of the cities on my 17-city GAL mentioned as having a cert. out, but I have not received any emails (I checked and rechecked my inbox, spam folder, and deleted emails folder). How do I contact "Bob" or whoever can tell me if I made cert or not? PS: Thanks to all of you who have been sharing valuable information on this board.

Guys and Gals, there is a poll up asking how many cities you were certed for to try and see what impact the gal size really had or will have.
If you made the cert, please vote.
