Okay - this process started in March 2013. I've followed directions at every step. In a very anti-climactic fashion, while listening to a song whose lyrics contain the words "over thinking" and "over analyzing" - after poring over the 5 documents, checking again and again for errors or omisssions, I finally submitted the packet of 5 documents last evening.
Now what?
(Yeah, yeah, I know, marathon, not a sprint, and whatnot...)

Interviews will be scheduled "mid May" (maybe phone calls for scheduling will start next week?), and interviews will be held the first two weeks of June. And then more waiting (a skill I have nearly perfected). Sometime between mid-June and, oh, let's say mid-August, Bob and his magical staff will extend offers. You're in the last stretch of the marathon and, speaking from my two marathon experiences, the last few miles seem as long as the 24 that came before them.

If only it were so easy to edit the rest of life retroactively. thanks to you all. Boy, is that the truth. There is no "edit life" button.

Anyone know the practical difference between asking OPM to suspend you temporarily from the register and declining the interview with SSA by turning in your GAL form? Does it affect the bona fide consideration/3 strike rule? Suspension from the register applies to all agencies, not just ODAR/SSA. You will not appear on ANY certs for ANY agency until the suspension period ends. If you just decline the interview by removing all the cities you are on the cert for from your GAL, that takes you off the cert for this round and takes those cities off your GAL permanently unless and until applications are reopened or OPM otherwise lets you change your GAL (that's not going to happen for at least two years). You remain eligible for future certs for other cities that remain on your GAL. Neither has any effect whatsoever on bona fide consideration/three strikes, as you are not being "considered" until the selection process starts AFTER interviews connected with a particular cert.

Thanks observer. I'm facing this decision now. It almost sounds as if it's better to suspend than decline. As it doesn't remove any cities from your GAL. It seems odd to me that declining an interview is considered tantamount to removing a location from your GAL. What you are really doing is removing yourself from consideration for that city. That IS changing your GAL. One isn't declining an interview unless NO cities are left on the list. If you don't want to change your GAL, suspension is the answer.

Hi guys. First time poster here, though I have been lurking occasionally. So I have a very limited GAL of only a few cities. One of those cities is apparently on the list for this cert. My score is just above what is being reported on this board as the cutoff. I did not get an email notifying me that I am on the cert.
Is it possible that I could have a score that is above the "cutoff", but still not get a notification because the scores for my selected city are higher?
I am just wondering whether my exclusion was a possible mistake or if I just have to cross my fingers for the next one. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

It is entirely possible that the reported "cutoff" is for a different city than the one of yours on these certs and that your cities have cutoffs above your score. On the other hand, there have been reports on this Board of people who were in a similar situation who have contacted SSA and found out they were in fact on the certs.

There apparently are 44 cities with openings. I had a wide open GAL and score comfortably above the cutoff, but only made the cert for 42 cities. I assume that my score was not high enough to make the cert on those two locations. Maybe that is what happened to you. Best of luck.

It's true that your score might not have been high enough to make the list on that one city. But, because your score is above what was reported as the overall low score, I would contact Bob Gehlken just to be sure.

Gary, what do you mean by your sombrero comment?

Gary, what do you mean by your sombrero comment? Funkyodar is a longtime, very frequent, highly valued contributor to this Board. A few months ago a poster with the handle Radoy Knuf (Funkyodar spelled backwards) began making humorous posts using an avatar that looked like Funkyodar's avatar wearing sunglasses and a sombrero. I was suggesting that along with Tigerlaw (take a look at the last few days of the thread "A Touch of Reality" to get the flavor of that) Funky would be waiting for his interview in a room with Radoy Knuf.

Bump. This is also helpful for newby scoobies. Thanks a lot Chessparent. When I saw it at the top I almost had a heart attack. But I survived. Very clever. Better luck on your next victim. (I agree it answers a lot of the questions that have been raised by the scoobies, but you know we always question your motives.)

Bump. This is also helpful for newby scoobies. Although a cruel trick for us non-noobs. Jerk. For once, I was not playing around. I was just looking for threads that might answer some of the new member's questions about the next step. I overlooked the title of the thread. No heart attacks intended.
