New theory (kudos to S. O.): Bob is taking well-earned use-or-lose leave because he's going to be *busy* in November and December... Discuss.

New theory (kudos to S. O.): Bob is taking well-earned use-or-lose leave because he's going to be *busy* in November and December... Discuss. Exactly. He had to go now since the certs are not back from OPM yet and he is between tasks.

Can anyone name a private organization with a huge budget .... End of rant. Welcome to the ALJ process. Been like this for many many years. I am not excusing the process nor do I like it but nothing we can do to change it. Yes your frustration is totally valid. Just imagine how claimants feel having to wait for a hearing and then wait some more for a decision. And we have to keep in mind that OPM still holds the key as Bob or anyone else at SSA cannot do a thing until they have the certs from OPM. This is not Bob's fault at all. Edit: I know you were not blaming Bob and are just frustrated with the process. And all this talk about Bob maybe misled you to think we are waiting on him. We are not. Right now we are waiting on OPM. But if Bob is the all-knowing and all-powerful, why shouldn't I pay attention to him even when he's behind the curtain?

Click your heels Gary... Click your heels. It won't work unless I click the heels of my SSA slippers three times and say, "There's no place like ODAR."

He's on a Munchkinland beach drinking Margaritas. Enjoy, Bob.

Things we wish for Bob on his vacation... Discuss.
My first three are: 1. Free checked luggage. 2. Sudden miracle "Wait, you're THE Bob?" upgrade to First Class for all of Bob and Co. 3. Park Place AND Boardwalk stickers on Team Bob's Happy Meals... Provided that Bob stays on the job, of course!

FWIW: It has been reported to me from an ALJ who has been privy to conference calls and discussions with people in the know that they are hiring about 20 from the first cert to start in January and train in February. This will fill one class at the training. The second cert has been requested, but no info on when it will be out or when interviews, start dates etc. will occur. I believe the source is trustworhty and, as a hopeful second certer eager to get to the interview phase, I do not enjoy giving this news. But for those who interviewed and have not been hired, this is great news.

As always we will just have to wait and see. It is weird that there were apparently 2 calls to first cert'ers then silence. Maybe due to working transfer list but who knows. As always this news simply raises more questions than are answered.

Would welcome a newbie in Middlesboro. The office is set up for 6. With the addition of myself and my fellow recent hire, we had 5. But, one is retiring in January and another just took a HOCALJ position elsewhere. So, plenty of room in a great office.

As always this news simply raises more questions than are answered. Assuming this intel is true: 1. The first set of certs were reportedly for 90 positions. They filled 70 of them. So they could hire another 20 from the first set of certs without waiting on OPM assuming there are 20 who are reachable who SSA wants to hire. 2. SSA may have preferred to do all of this hiring on the second set of certs when they may have had more flexibility depending on the locations certed and candidates' GALs. 3. To some extent SSA may have painted itself into a corner by making the couple of first cert hires to start in January. Now they really need enough hires for a reasonable sized class. 4. Hiring for the rest of the positions they can hire from the first set of certs may be SSA's contingency plan in case OPM doesn't get the second set of certs back to SSA in time to interview, reference check, etc. to hire for a January start date. 5. This may not affect the chances of landing an ALJ job for us second cert hopefuls in the long run. I believe SSA will only hire candidates they would have hired anyway, and so by the time the second set of certs are out there will be 20 or so more off the register and up to 40 more considerations will have been assessed to people still on the register.

But what about the dear john emails that were sent to the first certers? Excellent question. I can theorize, but don't really know the answer to your question.

While this isn't good news for me or others in the "hoping to be on the second cert" group, it is great news for those on the first cert who haven't been hired yet. Good luck to you all!

But what about the dear john emails that were sent to the first certers? That could be a "he loves me, he loves me not situation". Were I a person who received a dear john email, and then subsequently a proposition from ODAR, I would accept the love and forgive the fickleness.

No, we have no idea, but based on what one of them posted, it looks like they did NOT get a 'Dear John" email.

I was a bit surprised that Gary hasn't posted a suggestion that if you got a "Deat John" email you should seriously consider declining a later offer because of ODAR's apparent fickleness. LOL

LOL The bigger question to consider is, if you got a "Dear John" email and your name isn't "John," do you really want to work for people who haven't bothered to learn your name?
