HHS is advertising on USA Jobs for 16 AA vacancies in their projected new Kansas City Office. I do not know how many Judges that translates to but a SWAG would be at least eight judges. The ALJ interviwing me said that the agency was growing. A good sign for those of us on the register because that tranlates to more opportunity, especially for folks like the fella who only has a couple of locations on his GAL and Kansas City is one of them.

Why is pay so low? Are AAs at SSA only promoted to grade 11s, too?

Why is pay so low? Are AAs at SSA only promoted to grade 11s, too? The announcement indicates GS-12 is the promotion potential, which is in line with ODAR AAs as well (SAAs are 13s). But it looks like it starts at a GS-9, which is interesting.

I know other agencies hire attorneys that cap at GS-14 without a promotion. SSA and OMHA AA positions cap out at GS-12. And upward movement can be difficult within the Agency. The main reason I left SSA--there was no upward movement at all.

I also wonder if Orchid's reference to "other attorneys" is broader than the AA positions. For example, at SSA, attorneys at OGC usually reach a higher grade than 12.

Sorry for any confusion. I meant non-managerial attorney advisors.
