I know it's on this board somewhere but for those making this first cert I assume you all were given the opportunity to narrow down you GAL's is that correct? If so, how many choices, preferences etc?

If so, how many choices, preferences etc? If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me but they could cut as many or as few cities as they wanted. They could also rank the cities in order from 1 - 46 if they wanted.

Dukehoops: Was the offer for Philadelphia East or Philadelphia? Philadelphia East. If there is a significance to that distinction that you know about, I would love to hear it.

Funky you were probably joking earlier, but I got a call this morning from OMHA for further followup, and within two hours Bob called with an offer for Milwaukee, which has been accepted. FYI, I was given a 48-hour window if I wanted to make a decision, OMHA was aware that I was being considered by ODAR, and Milwaukee was part of the unranked portion of my cert city list. I would say it appears there is a pattern that ODAR is filling positions city-by-city.

I assume you'll be in good shape to get back home rather quickly if I'm interpreting your username correctly.

Unless they needed to hire you in Milwaukee to get to my friend or vice versa. Congrats

So this appears to be the first report of someone NOT getting a city they had ranked on their list of preferences.

Congratulations dukehoops and stlawyer on your new positions. I am extremely happy for you. The new hires seem to disprove the analysis somewhat of the anonymous poster who wrote to ALJD. It is no longer just about preferences of candidates, but just filling positions with qualified candidates. The loser in all of this ends up to be OMHA as it keeps on getting beat to the punch by ODAR/SSA. It is sad that OMHA will now be left with picking up pieces or not hire as many people this time out. Hopefully, for the rest of the first-certers the pieces for ODAR/SSA start to fall much faster now. Giving someone 48 hours to decide seems a little much as I think giving someone just 24 hours to decide would be fair enough for everyone as most people wouldn't even take that long. So, to some extent ODAR/SSA has created this process taking longer than it has to be by giving 48 hours for a decision to be made. It holds up further offers to others until acceptance by the one being offered an ALJ position accepts or declines.

If they are going city by city, do we think that means there is only one opening each in Buffalo, Richmond, and Tupelo?

I'm leaning towards thinking there are two, and the others are non-board members.

I'm leaning towards thinking there are two, and the others are non-board members. It could also be possible that they have a lower score they want to fill one or more of these offices with, and they need to hire/hack their way through the scores above them to make it happen. I know they have to wait for an offeree to make a decision before they can proceed, but I don't know that they have to fill every spot in that city at once.

Progress is progress. I've no complaints at this point.

OMHA having this weird "tentative offer until OPM approves" structure is really hurting them, on top of their limited locations and the relocation issue. Most will take a firm offer from ODAR in a more preferable (and subject to transfer) location while OMHA waits for OPM to do whatever it is doing.

The possibilities are, of course, many and mysterious.

Dukehoops; The difference is about eight city blocks, but Philadelphia has no empty offices and Philadelphia East has three, soon to be four. If you want any more info, PM me.
