Dukehoops; The difference is about eight city blocks, but Philadelphia has no empty offices and Philadelphia East has three, soon to be four. If you want any more info, PM me. So philliesfan, as little as eight city blocks makes that much of a difference as to how full one office is and another is not? Interesting dynamics must be going on differently inside the two offices that one is full and the other has a lot of openings. I don't expect you to answer, but it is the only logical explanation.

I think the approach is very logical. Fill as many spots as possible with the top talent. I feel like an American Idol contestant. I've used the Idol analogy often. Only time coming in first matters is the finale. Up until then you just have to do enough to keep from getting cut.

I don't need 48 hours to decide, I need .48 seconds. When they called me Bob said he was calling to offer me an ALJ position. I accepted then realized I'd cut him off before finding out where and had to ask. but to be honest that time around they were doing the mass calls and I was watching the board and they were working east to west and felt certain it was one of two cities and it was.

ALJ idol? Did I miss the team and duet events?
Coincidentally, American Idol is holding auditions in Richmond, VA today. But not for ALJs, as far as I know.

I can report Bob is still working. Is this related to the newly checked Albuquerque box in the poll?

Baglady, I had picked about 70 cities originally, and 15 made this cert. I ranked about half, with Milwaukee being in the unranked portion. Ranking decision was based on proximity to home and other cities being near family. Didn't strike any because they were unwanted, just less convenient. Obviously very excited about Milwaukee and the next stage of my legal career. Best of luck to the rest of you.

MPG: The judges who have left Philadelphia East did so either to get back home or to shorten their commutes, not because of the office.

I accepted an offer to Philadelphia East today. Philadelphia was the only city on my GAL on the cert. Wow. One city, and it was enough. Right place, right time, right score, good interview. Congratulations! It does look like the pace is picking up, or they are just catching more Board members now. Anyway, bodes well for the rest of the week! Good luck, all you waiters (and waitresses? ) No, let's just call you all "waiters". Just like they are all "actors" now at the movie awards. Sorry, just spent a long two hours on the bench. A bit punchy at the moment!

Looks like the standard is two cities a day. Monday - Richmond & Fresno and Tuesday - Milwaukee & Philadelphia East. I wonder if the pace will remain the same or pick up. Also, likely other offers out there not captured by board due to non-membership.

I got a "tentative" offer from HHS/OMHA for KC starting on August 25.
Wayne, Steve and I will be part of the new office at KC, however, OMHA still must process my fingerprints (fingerprints are in FedEx's hands as we speak) and background investigation in order for OPM to give its blessing and then give HR the go ahead to make the official offer. It seems to be a great organization, but with limited locations.
I have been sitting on this for the past 24 hours as I sought advice from others (Funky and AM, thank you for your sage wisdom). 16 months ago, I started this process only thinking of ODAR. My law partner's wife is an SAA and my legal assistant of 5 years is now a case tech and both convinced me that I should apply for SSA/ODAR ALJ as they thought I would be great at the job (who can account for taste amongst friends...that's for Funky!).
As I waited and waited and waited and waited and waited...(you get the point!), never did it enter my mind that it would be anything but ODAR. I knew the 10 points would get me a high score, but I thought I would land in the mid to upper 70s with my vet points, not in the 80s, so HHS and other agencies never entered my mind.
I have waited for 16 months and I would like to have the benefit of knowing whether or not ODAR was going to offer me a position as that was my goal all along and would still accept an offer if given one by ODAR in any of the 20 cities on my CERT.
I am extremely happy and excited about OMHA and Kansas City, but frustrated by a process that has gone on and on and on and on and on...yeah you get the point!!!

MPG: The judges who have left Philadelphia East did so either to get back home or to shorten their commutes, not because of the office. Philliesfan is right. As I've said before, he is the YODA of ODAR. Or, as you might say, YODAR. I know Philly East very well. You're three blocks from the Liberty Bell, very close to train and metro, and less than one short block to DiBruno Brothers, a fabulous Italian market. The only downside to Philly East is that you're in the City, and there's a City wage tax. That sucks. But the locality pay is excellent, and there are some superb support staff there. The writers are excellent. There's one "joke employee" there, but hopefully he'll be forced out in the near future for being completely unproductive and completely incompetent. He is the worst SSA employee I've ever met, yet is handsomely paid. I would tell you that he's a Senior Attorney Advisor there, but you wouldn't believe me. I would like to think that the "powers that be" are all over that matter, but it's SSA, and there is tremendous bureaucratic inertia to overcome. You can ask anybody who's breathing at that office, and everybody will tell you the same thing about He Who Must Not Be Named. You should have a great assignment. Congratulations! Best, Hamster
