I still don't fully understand how locations get selected to be on the cert. I'm aware of at least 1, where there is no current vacancy, and will not be a vacancy until December. Are they really moving forward with putting ALJs in writer offices?

Are they really moving forward with putting ALJs in writer offices? There are ALJs who have been hired into non-conforming office space that started phase 2 of the training in Falls Church yesterday. Other sitting ALJs have accepted transfers into offices with non-conforming office space. So the answer is yes. Now are there cities on these certs that won't get a new hire probably but it won't be because the agency can't offer an ALJ a writer sized office.

The Agency has been very clear that it wants to hire 250 people this year and next - while the Agency is adding satillite offices, it is not planning on building more office space - with a generous telework policy for decisionwriters and scts, the space needs to be utilized - judges often are in hearings 2 -3 days per week and teleworking 2 days - I wouldn't be surprised if, down the road, the judges start to share offices, including nonconforming space offices.

Agree. And frankly, you can put me in a broom closet if I am hardly in the office! LOL! Between working telework and being in the hearing room, that office gets little use. But that is just me...there are many who do not work telework and I can see that too. If I had a choice between getting the job with a writer office (no big deal to me on that) and NOT getting the job because there is no ALJ office.... guess which I choose?

If you guys create a broom closet shortage in the agency I'll be stuck with a conforming ALJ office, and I'm sure you wouldn't want that.

This might be even better than a dusty old broom closet: I for one am not picky. I will settle for a laptop and comfy chair in the break room, if that's what it takes.
