As we reach the two year anniversary of this delightful adventure, the Washington Post is reporting a plan for big changes in government hiring practices. OPM changesToo late to help this group, but perhaps the next round of hiring will move a bit quicker. A little more transparency in the whole process wouldn't hurt, either. Without this board, many of us would be clueless as to the plans and procedures used by both OPM and ODAR. I think that letting candidates know what is going on and how long the hiring process will take is a good thing, particularly when dealing with professionals who commit themselves to uproot their families and leave their legal practices in the hope of securing the golden ticket.

Thank you, this link works!! It does. But I liked the old link--its circularity reminded me of ODAR certs and the movie Groundhog Day.

Is two years the "cert" anniversary?

It will be two years this Friday since I hit the “send” button to start this odyssey. And, as I sit here today, I am on several certs that may or may not still be open, wondering if I am in a position to be hired from any of them. And, we all sit wondering if a new list is going to arrive any time soon. And, there is no way to know. What a long, strange trip it’s been. (Gaidin, cue the Dead )

Don't really want to rain on anyone's parade, but this push by OPM is nothing new. For years they continue to slap lipstick on the pig. ) From what I know, none of the "new" processes would be geared toward candidates who must test to get on a register. That process is totally different than other hiring processes in the federal government. The last "new" and improved plan (when OPM took USAJobs inhouse) has really worked well...and in a timely manner....not. Most all you guys have make it through the tough part and are sitting on the register, at a great time. Take it one day at a time and your golden ticket will arrive!

Whatever OPM and ODAR decide to do, I suspect that the process of hiring ALJ's is unlikely to change all that much. I admit that I do not understand the obvious complexity involved in selecting the proper candidates to fill the positions. At the same time, when you consider that it generally takes less than 3 months to confirm a Supreme Court Justice, it is hard not to speculate that the procedure being used is less than optimal.
With that said, I will return to my busy practice and continue to obsessively check my email and this board for news and hope that, unlike Robert Bork, I will eventually be deemed worthy.

The "wide-reaching 'road map'" is intended solely to create the illusion that OPM is doing something. Nothing much will change. Old wine in new bottles. I have no problem with rebottling. But do they have to let the wine turn into vinegar before they rebottle?
