There is not really alot going on around Skyline. What is there is mainly quick lunch places that serve the office drones. There is a Target adjoining the building, and that is honestly about the most interesting thing going on there. If you are flying out of Reagan the Crystal City neighborhood is only one metro stop away from the airport and it has a nice variety of bars and restaurants were you can unwind after your interview.

Omigosh - you have to try the Peruvian Chicken place across and just down the street - Edy's Chicken. Food is deelish and reasonable. Order at the counter and wait for them to call your number. That's where I am going!

Edy's has been there for years and is WONDERFUL. And it's right across the street (ok it's a big street). Highly recommend!
If you prefer, there's a Panera up the road a bit (north, toward Tyson's, on the same side of the street as SSA office, which would be your left heading north). Free WiFi and some comfortable chairs, but not as close as Edy's

I went to the National Mall afterwards and wandered around.

While the chicken place is awesome and there are a few restaurants near skyline, I'd advise against them. If you get the gig you will have 28 training days to sample their fare at lunch.
I still haven't craved a perfect pita since last October.

It is hot and humid in the DC area. I start sweating at 8:00am just waiting for Metro. If you walk a mile to the Panera and a mile back, you will not be comfortable in interview clothes.

It was December when I interviewed and a nice walk in the cold to warm up was appreciated but honestly I gotta say this fella makes sense for a Bucks fan.

I was in a similar situation with an early morning flight, afternoon interview, and evening departure. The area around the Tower didn't feel pedestrian friendly, let alone in August heat plus interview attire. I found that the security staff at Skyline Tower were very accommodating about letting me into the building and getting me settled into the cafeteria there to grab a snack and settle in for awhile. The ODAR staff were great about welcoming us when it was time for the interview itself. I didn't think I had enough time to head into DC after, so I headed for National Airport instead and enjoyed the Legal Sea Foods there. I can only hope I'll have 28 days in the near future to try the Peruvian chicken. Good luck at your interview Exnicios!

Funky and others are correct. There are some places to eat around Skyline, I have also eaten at them all in partner with Funky and others, repeatedly during our 28 days tenure there. Nothing struck me as more than a 1 star out of a 5 star rating. Additionally as noted, if you plan to walk anywhere around there, it is summer in DC that means hot, humid, swampland. You will not perspire, you will sweat. Profusely. Significantly. Noticeably. Plan your walking time and your interview accordingly. My recommendation if you are simply flying in and out for the interview and you have a couple hours to kill. Hang around the airport, it is air-conditioned, has equivalent food fare as you would find around SSA (without the sweating) then Uber over to the interview, finish, Uber back, fly out.
Otherwise you can go on over to the SSA, see if the guards will let you up into the cafe, and chill there. The cafe is a typical govt cafe, very small, stark and quasi recognizable food. But if security does not let you in, then note there is no lobby in which you could hang out in the SSA, you are going to have to go elsewhere.
Finally arrive at SSA early. It is not uncommon for you not to be of record when you get there, your ID is not in the system, the system is down etc. Getting through inital security can be a one minute breeze or can be a 45 minute stand at a counter, leaning on one arm, slowly tapping fingers with other hand and suppressing a much needed yawn as yet another bead of sweat slowly trickles down your back.

DC is a wonderful town. I think it's important to take a walk after your interview. Clear your head and relax. I recommend a walk on the mall and stop to see some of the monuments. Even if you have been there many times, try it again. It's a peaceful experience. Good luck!

Since someone mentioned Crystal City...I stayed there for part of the exam process. After, I asked the clerk to recomend someplace for dinner. He recommeded the Crystal City Restaurant for a good steak. I swear...he didn't tell me it was a "gentleman's club." Funny. I don't remember what I ate...or if it was good... crystalcityrestaurant.com/

Overall DC is one of my favorite cities, especially if you are a runner. The Capitol Mall area cannot be beat with its multitude of free museums and innumerable 4+ star restaurants. We go to DC quite often through the year. Will in fact be there this coming week; looking forward to it again.

Apparently the Sports Pub steak is memorable, but do you remember what was on the tv while you had dinner?

DCA (aka Reagan National) has some pretty good restaurants and if you like Japanese food you are in luck. They are all on the public side of the ariport so don't go through security and expect anything worth really digging into.

Apparently the Sports Pub steak is memorable, but do you remember what was on the tv while you had dinner? Folks, there are about a dozen great small restaurants right across the street and up the street a block, within 200 feet. The purple neon lighting and lack of transparent windows didn't give it away?
