Also the hubs and kids are tagging along. Any kid friendly (or more appropriately, toddler friendly) things to do in the vacinity of OPM and SI? The National Mall with all of the monuments is a short walk from OPM's headquarters. The Smithsonian museums will be good/free options for cold winter day. As for the SI location if it's near Georgetown there are lots of shops, but not too many kid friendly options. There is an ice rink at the Georgetown Harbor in winter they could check out--probably expensive. You'd be better off sending them to the Newseum, or Spy Museum for the day. Though admittedly I'm not sure these are the best go to places for a toddler. I'd probably suggest taking a toddler to the National Zoo for the day and meeting up after the exam. There will likely be lots of walking either way so bring a stroller for sure.

If I am reading correctly you are coming december 9th with toddlers I suggest takibg advantage of activities given holiday season. You can see the national Christmas tree. In addition not far from the white house I have went to a free outdoor display of Christmas trees for each of the 50 states. There has also been outdoor ice skating at the sculpture gardens at the smithsonian where there is attached a cafe serving hot chocolate and much more. The national air and space museum is an excellent option especially if weather is bad. A days activity easily and it is free with overpriced fast food restaurants inside. Lastly I would see what is happening at the national harbor gaylord for holidays. They usually have this ice display (though your kids are young) but also can walk around hotel area see holiday lights and ride a little train and make gingerbread houses for a fee and see Santa. One year I took my daughter the theme was the grinch and they had a big green eggs and ham breakfast buffet and pictures taken with grinch. Lastly at national zoo in december they should have Zoolights event. Christmas lights and activities fun for all ages and still free I think.

I havent posted in a while. I know there is a thread and an answer for my question somewhere out there in the ether. Would khaki and a dress shirt be acceptable for the WD and LBMT and maybe a light jacket? Or do we assume you are always being evaluated and should dress accordingly? I wore jeans, sneakers, and a collared t shirt. The WD doesn't have a dress code. Conversely the SI is a formal interview and has that dress code. You were right there are several threads on exactly this issue.

Without disclosing any details - of course - reporting in that I am now a veteran of the WD/LBMT. So glad they are over to say the very least! SI tomorrow! Wait! You can tell us if the testing room was a meat locker, or there was a fire alarm in the middle of the day! These are good to know.

Well, I scheduled my test dates, got my flights, hotel and transportation set up. Now, I must go knock over the nearby 7-11 and liquor store next door to it in order to pay for it all. In some sense, I believe the gods were looking upon me favorably since I was able to get a non-stop flight in to Reagan on the way there. However, for the trip back, I was unable to avoid going through O'Hare, where I will most likely be consumed by the Langoliers.

There were 14 of us but apparently 16 were expected. One horror - one of our number somehow lost all his WD work right after time was called & could not continue to LBMT & SI - I believe he is being offered the chance to come back but can you imagine?!? I felt sick for him but he was gracious in the face of what had to be incredible frustration & disappointment. On a happier note, my SI is in the books. Now the case has been submitted to the jury. We will see :-)

I haven't had Bombay in years. Good call. Me and Cuervo went through a nasty divorce many years ago and have not spoken since. Overall, I'm guessing there is the distinct possibility that I may be drinking to forget the whole experience. That means vodka. Lots of it. Perhaps on the flight back I will have to indulge in a few "Caucasians" as the Dude would say.

Signed up for December 9th...what kind of weather can I hope for? I'm from the Pacific Northwest so I'm used to rain at that time. Should I bring my snow boots as well? Could be quite cold. Check the forecast, come prepared, warm overcoat, scarf, (it was really cold and windy when I was there in Nov) . Snow boots if the forecast says so.

This is not a motion for dismissal, but rather for summary judgment - since there is no question of fact as to whether I should make the register (I mean that the answer is yes of course - that's why they call me Hope2balj!

I would agree with you if getting on the register would be a final judgment in your favor. If the final judgment you seek is a job as an ALJ, Gaidin is right. Getting on the register will be a mere interlocutory order in your case. Perhaps the way to look at it is you have to clear a motion to dismiss with two grounds--minimum scores on the WD and SI--to get on the register. Then when the tribunal calls your case, you have your trial at the agency interview. Judgment is only entered in your favor when you accept an offer of employment as an ALJ.

Getting on the register will be a mere interlocutory order in your case. Hmmm, good point - or maybe both are summary judgment motions, one each in two different cases. Same petitioner (me), different respondent (OPM, SSA). Or maybe we're beating this analogy to death?
