I had heard about a proposal that ALJ's should be term limited, even though the appointment are not technically lifetime appointments, but rather appointment to a position with very strong job protections. I had not heard of the proposal making it to an actual bill. Most bills just die in committee and this one probably will too. On the other hand the only people who would find this proposal to be particularly controversial are probably the regulars of this board, the ALJ corp, and the AALJ/FCALJ. If it looked like it was actually going anywhere, the Wall Street Journal would probably endorse it, and the Washington Post might as well. While SSA ALJ's are probably not a top government issue in the public at large's consciousness, the news coverage over the past few years has been negative enough, that moves to roll back ALJ job protections aren't going to meet a lot of resistance in legislative circles. The moves to roll back protections for VA employees bear watching.

The "Maine Congressional Delegation" is not going to get much credence or attention anywhere south and west of Dover...........
