I was thinking a better answer to all the questions might be "7", which is, after all, the answer to life the universe and everything Um, NO.... the correct answer is 42. The real magic number is 9.

Um, NO.... the correct answer is 42. The real magic number is 9. This verifiable certifiable information is from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything is 42 according to Deep Thought.

Was she calling to see if you wanted to interview? I think so. Are you back in the game? The last I recall you had decided ALJ was not for you.... If you didn't turn back your materials in response to the cert email, the call may have been a follow-up from ODAR to see if you had intended to forego the opportunity. If you did, then it likely was for an interview.

All this talk of "no", 7 and 42, are causing me second guess my plan to turn to my Magic Eight Ball for the answers to the interview questions.

Gaidin and 71stretch hit the nail on the head. The contractors ask the same questions of everybody, Judges, Adversaries and fellow attorneys. Same questions that are posted on this board in other posts. I researched those questions and gave each reference in an email the list of questions that they "might" be asked and all 9 to include the 3 Judges called me with exactly the same response.
Use this board, the info is here as to exactly what the Agency is looking for and the questions they seek answers to from your references. With over a million pending cases, this is for the most part, a lifetime appointment if you can do 500 cases a year or more, so it's worth the effort to research exactly what's involved in the hiring process. Good luck to everybody. tiger

What about the employers/supervisors going back 15 years? Should they be prepared to answer these questions as well or are they given a different set of questions?

My interview is a week from today, and I live about 3.5 hours from Falls Church so I'll be driving. Even though SSA won't reimburse me for hotel, and though my interview time (1:30 p.m.) would allow me to get over there fairly easily on Tuesday morning, I decided to go ahead and book a room at the nearby Hampton Inn for the night before anyway. That way, I don't have to worry about travel delays, I can sleep in and I can make sure my suit is reasonably unwrinkled and my socks match before the big Q&A session. After all, this is a "fairly important" occasion, and one we all have worked hard and long to secure. Well worth the extra hundred bucks or so!

Well worth the extra hundred bucks or so! very wise. 3.5 hours could be pushing it for same day travel for a 1:30 interview. Esp given DC traffic and the possibility of winter conditions since it is December. and to those panicking about my use of the phrase winter conditions, that is only a POSSIBILITY. DC weather is fickle and you all may have wonderful weather! so please do not panic but do get on weather.com and check DC forecast for your travel days. and hope2b, thanks for sharing and providing excellent advice to the rest of us. And best of luck to you. Seems like a lot of great candidates will be interviewing and you are definitely among those who i believe will be a great judge and a great asset for SSA. I'm an insider BTW.

Was she calling to see if you wanted to interview? I think so. The email says that if they don't receive any response to the email, they will call to follow up. That's why they don't want people calling them to verify that the documents were received.

Haven't been on the board since last summer when I declined to interview for a couple of west coast locations. You would think that would have been the end, but got another cert email on Monday for two more west locations. One of which is the same as the last round. I will be declining again. No interest in working for SSA at this time. Why would it be "the end"? You are going to keep showing up on SSA/ODAR certs that are for cities that are on your GAL. Apparently OPM didn't act on your first decline of the one west coast city. They may catch it this time.

Many of you may know this, and not to increase concern, but it may be helpful to keep in mind that the D.C. area absolutely shuts down when it rains snows . As someone who lives not far from D.C. and in an area with about the same climate - meaning there are times when my area gets snow and ice and we have to drive in it, etc., - D.C.'s "no go in the snow" has always been hard for me to understand. I realize of course that people from all over the place, including areas where there's only tropical temps year round, populate the D.C. area, but come on people! The forecast for December 14-18 looks good as of now for Falls Church/Alexandria/D.C., so those of us lucky enough to be on the interview schedule next week shouldn't have any issues at all. I'm hoping the same for all of you who may be scheduled later this winter for sure. As I said, just wanted you to be aware in case you weren't...

Et moi, aussi. Tell me, o learned ones - the responses aren't due til Jan. 6, so what does that indicate? That I'll be considered for any additional cities this go-round (the options apparently are limited to an attached "JOA list" which I haven't opened yet)? That the hiring committee won't meet til after 1/6? Something else?
