I was introduced to this song by my 7 year old (!) I prefer the acoustic cover to the original. Pretty much sums up the waiting game.

And now, one can think of this as a belated valentine from some of us on the register to the powers that be at the puzzle palace. Don't ever change. Full disclosure: lyrics are a little (basic cable) racy.

We've gotten away from the ABB, so I thought I would get us back on track by relating how Duane and Eric Clapton met.
The ABB was in Miami for a show at one of the large venues there. Duane called Tom Dowd at Criteria Studios to check in with him. Tom told him that Eric Clapton was there doing an album (would later be known as Layla And Assorted Love Songs. Duane said, "No sh--t, I would really like to meet him. Ask him if I can stop by and say hello after we get through with the show tonight." Tom said to not worry about it, just come cm by. Eric was in the control room, heard the conversation and asked who it was. Tom told him it was a relatively new guitar player named Duane Allman. Eric's response was, "No sh--t, he is great, I have been following him since I first heard him, and would love to meet him." Tom told him the ABB was doing a show in about an hour. Eric decided he had to go. Tom said, "The show is probably sold out, but I think I can get us in."
Tom was able to get them in the venue, but no seating was available, and SRO in the rear was full. So they made their way to the front, slipped under the barricades and sat on the floor, backs against the barricade, looking up at the band (I guess it never hurts to be Tom Dowd in Miami). There was another guy with them, but I don't remember who that was.
Duane was playing an extended solo with his eyes closed when they came in, and Dickie was chugging away on rhythm when he noticed Duane had stopped playing. He looked over at Duane and saw him staring straight down in front of the stage. He followed Duane's line of sight and saw Eric Clapton looking up at them. Dickie immediately turned around with his back to the audience as he knew he would stop playing as well with Eric Clapton looking at him. Duane got it back together and continued playing. I imagine he played a little hotter than usual for the show with Eric watching him.
After the show Eric was backstage with Duane and asked him to come back to the studio with him. At the studio he asked him to play on one song for the album. That song turned into many, including the title cut. They continued to talk and show each other techniques on the guitar until the next afternoon.
Duane stayed in the studio with them until he had to leave for another show with his band. I believe he came back a time or two and added his parts to the album. Tom Dowd said about their friendship and collaboration: "There had to be some sort of telepathy going on because I've never seen spontaneous inspiration happen at that rate and level. One of them would play something, and the other reacted instantaneously. Never once did either of them have to say, 'Could you play that again, please?' It was like two hands in a glove. And they got tremendously off on playing with each other."
Duane also did a few shows with Eric and was asked by Eric to join his band. It was the ultimate compliment, but Duane had to decline as he had his own vision. I believe this was about the Summer of 1970. Unfortunately, Duane only had a little over a year to live. Please remember that Duane died before the band hit it really big and began making money. At the time of his death, Duane had his guitars and amps, a few dollars, an older car and the motorcycle he was killed on. Greg, in remembering his brother, perhaps at the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, said, "You never made any money, brother, but you made your mark, you sure made your mark."

Eric Clapton is another great, We have a collection of his diddies too!! not to mention the Beatles! the kids actually thought the Beatles were still popular when they started school, they heard the Fab 4 so much at home! Pixie, i am beginning to suspect you are my hubby's high school sweetheart given your similar music interests and had he started college right away, he wanted to be a music major at 18... hmmm.....

Eric became friends with George Harrison and actually played on one or two of the Beatles' records, not under his own name, and George played on one or two of Eric's records.
I was hoping to keep my prior relationship with your husband quiet, but looks as if the cat is now out of the bag. Please remember that was before you came around.
Ask him about time we went to see the ABB in Miami and had Eric Clapton sitting on the floor almost directly in front of us. We had some good times together, but I guess you don't want to hear about that! Pix.

When I went through the process for the first time in 2013, I had just finished a hike across Spain and was really looking forward to the chance to start a new part of my career and attain a goal I set for myself many years ago. Then I got cut after the DC testing and decided not to appeal because of family reasons. I pretty much stayed away from the board until I heard about this new round. So I came back. The 2013 cut really bruised my self-esteem but I am just going to hope for the best and once again, I am headed out for a hike (this time in Scotland where I will be with some awesome lawyers and doctors). When my adult daughter is feeling discouraged (she has a congenital birth defect but works full time, is finishing her BA and suffers through terrible pain) this is what I send to her. wow, great song!!! i love his voice in particular, thanks for post!

Did someone mention George Harrison? My appreciation for the Beatles is largely for George Harrison.

Of course here is Harrison and Clapton playing together. Ok that is awkward since they are singing about same woman. Did they do Layla for their next song?
