See details. It means you have not received a successful score. Just to clarify - do you mean if it says "pending HR specialist action" then I didn't make the first cut? I didn't notice if it ever said anything different. I was assuming it meant it hadn't yet been reviewed but your post makes me think maybe it means I didn't even get through the the first round. Thanks in advance for any insight. The two we have found meaningful in the past appeared at the top of the page. They are: See Details--You're out. Complete--You're in. There have been other messages in that position that seemed to just mean they were grinding away at it. My guess is the message you asked about means they are still reviewing to determine minimal qualifications, e.g., bar membership, seven years of experience, etc.

No he means if it says "see details" - you are correct in what you current status means. Thank you for the quick reply to both of you. It's nice that people are able to share so much knowledge here. At the top of the page under "assessment" it says "complete - questionnaire" , then "no results yet - external assessment" but then at the bottom of the page it says "application processing status - pending HR specialist action." There's nothing about see details anywhere so I gues its just in the same state of limbo as it was when I applied.

If it's like it was when I could access it, at the very top it should say something like "STATUS:" It is what follows that in equally big letters that has the significance we have mentioned. Other things may indicate they are "complete" or something else without having the same import.

I didn't mean to imply that pending HR was a bad result. I just meant I'm tired of seeing it; sort of like checking the mail every day for a letter that never seems to come.

Thanks in advance for any insight. No. I assume that "pending HR specialist action" means exactly what you said. What I was saying was that "See Details" means that you have not received a successful NOR. I was responding to the initial question about what status will you learn to hate.

I didn't mean to imply that pending HR was a bad result. I just meant I'm tired of seeing it; sort of like checking the mail every day for a letter that never seems to come. Shortly after the I applied in 2013 OPM did something with application manager and myself and many others were unable to see our statuses or anything else about our initial applications. Our applications were not lost or anything we just couldn't see them. I found it relaxing not being able to check or obsess over that. It allowed me much more time to obsess over other things in the process. This isn't a marathon its a barefoot ultra marathon around the rim of an active volcano.

I found it relaxing not being able to check or obsess over that. It allowed me much more time to obsess over other things in the process. Yeah, I'm a current federal employee, so I know the inherent delay for typical routine hiring actions and certainly expect that to be exponentially greater for this type of hiring action. I've already moved past the obsessing stage. I just check the status routinely every morning so I don't have to worry about missing an email notice due to spam filtering and then go about my day.
While I find the discussion of the process overall interesting, I will choose to focus on, and obsess over, those things within my control. That is a plateful all by itself anyway.

Well I tried to shorten up the quote and that didn't work well.

When they actually decide if you are qualified to go to online testing, will they send a message to you at the same time as your "application status" is updated?

When they actually decide if you are qualified to go to online testing, will they send a message to you at the same time as your "application status" is updated? They will send you an email. I wouldn't count on it happening simultaneous with any status changes. Your status may change weeks before the emails go out. They will send all the emails for a test group out at the same time but they will changes statuses when the evaluation on a given candidate is done. Except when they don't change the status but send the email anyway because somebody didn't push the right button on the computer.

I think it's worth noting that the concerns by Gaiden, gary, etc., that new testing procedure would be slower seems to be coming to fruition...
The poll I took of all those I know who made it to the online testing process in 2013 indicated that they received notification Apr 1-12, which correlates to Apr 26-May 5 for the 2016 application process.
The gap between the end of the application window and the opening of the online portion in 2013 was 45 days. That would correlate to an opening of May 23 with the 2016 application. Although a recent post by someone who sat for quarterly testing of vets made it seem that they had tremendously cut the gap between online invitation and online testing, given the volume of online testers from the "open app period," its hard to imagine them being able to reduce it to 7 days.
All of this to say that it appears the 2016 application process is currently at least a week behind the 2013 schedule, much as the old guard predicted.

My timing in 2013 would equate this year to an email this Thirsday inviting me to take the online testing. I wouldn't say we've got solid evidence that OPM is going slower this time. At least not yet.
Preference eligibles who get to test outside of a big group like most of you are a special case. OPM can process a smaller group much more quickly than the thousands who recently applied. I don't take the timing for a small group of veterans as being predictive of the timing for the large group of March/April applicants.

I don't see evidence they are running late as of now. Last month, they only gave me a week between notification and starting the two-week test window. They could notify by E-mail on May 16th (my WAG) and still hit the May 23rd opening of online testing.

FWIW my application changed from "Pending HR Specialist Action" to "Awaiting results - you will be notified." No clue as to what that means and whether it is good news or not, but am trying not to focus on it....

No clue as to what that means and whether it is good news or not, but am trying not to focus on it.... This is just another step forward in the process. Back in 2013 these changes occurred slowly as they input the data for each candidate. It is a sign of movement. You cannot read anything into any of these statuses except when you get either complete (good) or see details (bad) as others have pointed out. Good luck!
