Rumor from a reliable source states that the completion of reviews of the applicants is not going as quickly as TPTB had hoped, for reasons outside their control. That being said, the offers could start as early as next Thursday or Friday but it does not appear they will occur earlier than that.

So are we in agreement that This Is The Week™ ? I doubt they are issuing offers on Saturday, so I am pulling for next week, which by my watch, starts on Sunday, or Monday for the business world. Sorry.

I would think offers will start Thursday or Friday but will continue into the next week which will make it the longest Memorial Day weekend for many.

I have no inside information or reliable sources. I can't even make an educated guess. So my WAG guess is that Judicially Imployed is right about the process: aljdiscussion.proboards.com/thread/3849/best-guess-on-hiring-processThey know some of the people they want to hire, now, and the locations they'll be offered. The rest are just dominoes. So I am further WAGing that calls will be made starting on Wednesday or so of this coming week, and then there will be some reshuffling, and other calls will be made, with more reshuffling to follow. And my long term WAG is that the calls for the first class, at least, will finish up by the Wednesday after Memorial Day. But the calls will be made in fits and starts, keeping us on pins and needles for the next ten days.

Fortunately, you didn't worry over Application Manager and have saved your worrying for the times that it really matters. Now is that time. Pixie.

Fortunately, you didn't worry over Application Manager and have saved your worrying for the times that it really matters. Now is that time. Pixie. Oddly, I've stopped worrying. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from confident. But now that all future advancement in this process is out of my hands I am not worrying much. There's nothing I can do. I can't change anything that's happened. There are no do-overs. I will probably start worrying again with each cert though, and each message where someone posts that he or she got the call. Until and unless *I* get the call. It would be a big relief to be hired from the pending cert because then I'll know what will happen and I'll have a time frame. I had fewer than 100 cities on my GAL, and fewer than half of those cities were certed this time. I eliminated two of those cities, so I'm still in contention for a number of cities this time around, many of which would be great and all of which would be fine. (I said on another thread that every city I identified is there for a reason.) But a lot of my most favorite cities were not on this cert. I keep thinking maybe the potential late summer cert would be better. I'm not hoping to be passed over this time -- far from it -- but if it happens, it's maybe okay. In the meantime, I'm working on what I do have some control over. I'm reducing the crap that's accumulated around the house lo these years, simplifying my life, tackling small projects in the yard and house, and getting set for a great summer. I know when things happen with SSA, they happen fast. I will either have a more orderly house to sell, or will live in a more orderly environment. And many worries in this process are behind me. I don't have to worry about what the WD, LBMT, and SI will be like and whether I'll blow it. I don't have to worry about flights to and from DC (I have had flight delays or been stuck in connecting cities many times and missed meetings, events, etc.). I don't have to worry about when or whether I'll get my NOR. I don't have to worry about what I'll be asked to do, or how I'll perform, or what to wear, or whether my references have been called. I know I'm a lot more fun when I spill my worries all over this board, over and over, but I'm just not there right now. Maybe it's time for a screen name change?

im just worried about where to find snow shoes in the middle of summer, oh, that's right, it will be at least be Sep 30 before i need them.... Now you're worrying. The mantle is passed to christina! But this isn't much of a worry. When I'm knee deep in snow and about to leave for a tropical climate, I don't worry about buying swimwear and flip flops until I get there. Whatever I need where I'm going is plentiful once I arrive. I'm sure the Mt. P hardware store will have it all: snowshoes, salt, ski masks, long underwear, and Yak Trax. Double-insulated everything. Whatever else you need can be mail-ordered from LL Bean, Cabela's, or REI. You'll be set.

OK children, off to dinner; please behave. Remember, I can monitor this board from my phone. Pixie.

I swear I never log on to the boards with the intent of being misbehaving. But when you tell me you're going to be away, Pixie, mischief is the first thing that pops into my head. I'm pretty sure propensity for practical jokes was not one of the reference check questions. Or if it was, they are willing to forgive it, as long as you can output 500 to 700 decisions a year.

I hate to say it, but I really don't want to see a post by the Great Pumpkin while I am away, as there is no telling how much mischief she has caused. Best that things have just been dormant while I have been on break. Pixie.

I rarely post now, but as a member of the Feb ALJ class, let me humbly put forward a few suggestions that may help those of you lucky enough to get an offer.
Lesson 1-Take the offer. An offer in the hand is worth a bushel in the bush. The one thing I have noticed is that SSA hiring is even more cryptic than you think when you're on the outside, so don't get cute with the process.
Lesson 2-Being an ALJ for SSA (and I imagine other agencies) is very cool. It is an honor, but believe me, you'll work hard to earn that honor, but the work is great.
Lesson 3-Study SSA law during the 3 weeks before your Falls Church class. The Falls Church training class puts out some great books that really help you, and you can borrow them from an established judge. Know the law. It's complicated, but it's a fixed arena you can master. SSA also provides great videos.
Lesson 4-Know the methodology for holding hearings, questioning claimants, developing Residual Functional Capacity and the resulting Hypotheticals, and for writing instructions for your decision writers. The Falls Church instructors, and they are superb, encourage eBB format, but many judges use FIT, which they find faster and is Word based (also not taught or discussed at FC) or other methods.
Lesson 5-The established ALJs and staff in you office are incredibly knowledgable and will be very helpful to you. Ask them for advice and for a copy of their formats. Try to do a lot of prep before Falls Church, and you will be way ahead.
Lesson 6-Rise to the occasion. DoD and other Agency protocol formally puts you at the SES and 1 Star level. You're a federal judge, and you've worked hard to get there. Be professional, humble, never arrogant, helpful, and incredibly thankful you are where you are. Stay away from political discussion, never be inappropriate in or out of the office, and remember that people judge the Agency by your actions, both in and out of the office. Work hard, but, more importantly, be efficient and be right. You will be expected to soon do 500 cases a year, so you must know the law, and know how to move cases.
Finally, claimants are almost always poor people who have many mental and physical problems. Many have had a difficult life. They are often sad and desperate people. An ALJ's job is to develop the facts surrounding their claim and make a decision of whether they meet the criteria for disability under the law, and you decision is not based on sympathy, but facts and law. Claimants always deserve respect, courtesy, and a timely and correct decision from the responsible ALJ.
I am a new judge, and there is so much I have to learn, but I wanted to share some thoughts of a rockie with those of you lucky enough to get the call. Like I said, being an ALJ is very cool, but it is also a tremendous responsibility. Good luck.

I appreciate AlexandersDad's comments. From working on the claimant's side of things I wish every ALJ followed these basic rules. I have saved a copy to refer back to if I'm lucky enough to get offered a position as an ALJ. Thank you for sharing your recent wisdom with all of us prospective ALJs!
