Certainly not getting ahead of myself, but when the offers start I assume they occur over a number of days? And if they dont reach by phone, will they also send out an email reaching out to you to contact them? It s been awhile since I ve had a different job so I m a little unclear on the appropriate decorum in regards to hiring.

In my situation I received a call. Was in court so she left a message to call her back. Not sure if they are doing anything by email these days. Pixie.

generally calls although when they are running short on time, emails have been sent as well.

What Christina said.
And yes, the offers take place over several days. I've heard on very good authority that they can average about 10 offers per day.

At 10 offers per day, hiring for two classes, wow! The calls would span a period as long as two weeks.
Agony and ecstasy.

Maybe a little longer. IF the classes are as large as rumor would have them and IF they do offers for both classes in one fell swoop.

I heard from a reliable source that for those waiting on SSA offers it is likely first offers will occur May 23rd. Good luck.

And, there is often more than one person making the calls. All things considered, it won't take two weeks. I am fairly sure didn't take that long in 2010 when they hired 110 (for two different start dates) at one time.

The 10 per day average is with two callers in the post-2013 separate-cert-for-every-location regime. As I said, that number is from very good authority.
It's an open question whether SSA will offer for both classes in one set or will offer for one class, regroup, and then offer for the second a few weeks later. If it's for one class, the coming set of offers may take a little more than a business week.

SSA will try to fill first class and if some defer start date they will be put in second class which usually means less than full first class. So, it could end up being a 45 person first class and a 50 person second class (as an example).

Under what circumstances can a person defer? If lucky enough to be successful in this endeavor, I'm worried about how long some custody issues may take to resolve if the family has to relocate, but I would also be ecstatic for the opportunity. It has been an agony considering the what if scenarios.

It has been an agony considering the what if scenarios. I don't know if there are particular circumstances. You get the call, you tell the caller your story, and you ask. It is possible they won't let you defer. Or if you're in the June class they may let you defer to July or possibly even Septeber; if you're in the July class they may let you defer to September; if you're in the September class they may not let you defer at all, or perhaps if you're lucky until January or February. They have seemed more reluctant about deferring starts from September classes because subsequent classes tend to be more up in the air.

Thank you Gary... Still have my fingers crossed that I am lucky enough to face this dilemma.

Several folks in my class were denied a later start date so they had to manage closing up shop and moving across country all in 3 weeks time.

In other threads there have been mentions of hiring calls proceeding more or less in score order. Also, the congressional testimony mentioned 75 candidates on each cert.
Is the hiring in rough score order because lower-scoring candidates have to be "reached" by higher scoring candidates above them being hired into other offices?
If I am so fortunate as to get a call, I'm thinking it won't be among the first, and I wanted to confirm my understanding of the process.

Yes, at least partially.
During the course of the hiring, some higher scoring candidates are hired and some receive three considerations. This combination allows SSA to reach lower scoring candidates on the certs for the later positions hired.

However, they also loop back some. There seems to be a tendency to hire for all of a single location and then move onto the next location. You usually have two or more people making the calls.
There is a definite downward trend but don't count yourself out if scores below yours start popping up.
Also I think the fact that there are two hire dates may impact the way they move through the scores.

G is absolutely correct. The score order thing is a general trend we've noticed. It is not absolute. Given varying GALs, it is certainly possible for SSA to reach some people with lower scores before considering some with higher scores.
