It is very interesting. A lot of turn downs to very popular places like D.C. and Baltimore. I think the economy has something to do with this. People don't want to sell a house during a down housing market. Especially if they bought in an up market.
Please understand that this is the list AFTER it was worked for transfers on the current interview/May hirings.

Can you post it here? Please? Maybe after redacting the names, but just showing the cities?

This list will have no bearing on the current hires (other than confirm there may be hires to sites traditionally filled from the list).
However, if you have an interest in a particular site, I will do what I can to post total wanting in and out.

Where is this list?[/quote]
On the AALJ board. You have to be a member to see it. OCALJ maintains the list and provides a copy to judge's union.

ALJSouth, wouldn't it have some bearing if the cert did not show any given office, but the transfer list showed someone declined to transfer, after all, to that office? Is there such a thing as an office showing up due to a declination? In other words, say a person posted ALL as their geo preference, and their "you made the cert" email reflected 88 offices. After the "you made the cert" email was sent, someone they had counted on as transferring to an office that was not one of the 88, declined. Would there then be 89 offices up for a vacancy? Maybe I am betraying my simple mind, but this seems a tad complicated and I am looking for a straightforward answer....

One ALJ's wanting to transfer From sites and another To sites. It is all generated from requests of ALJ's to transfer TO certain sites, but the info is kept as the ALJ wanting to go TO certain sites and FROM his/her present hearing office. The list would show a declination. I saw plenty for January, February and March of this year. A site could disappear if there was only one person on the transfer To list and the transfer was accepted; or, if only one person on the From list and he/she accepted a transfer out. I do not think SSA can expand the geographic sites after it has asked OPM for the cert for certain sites. It would need a cert for that "new" site.

So, what you are saying is that we do not know what offices are hiring and what offices are not.
Sounds like the transfer list does not give us too much information.
That puts us in the same position we were in before your news came out.

Except that it may indicate additional cities available for the September hiring.

Basically what you know from the info about the transfer list being posted is that the agency is gearing up to get the hiring finished for this round. The transfers must be offered first, then offers to new hires can follow.
Anyone who needs to confer with family about possible locations on their availability list should do it within the next 2-3 weeks and then make sure to watch their email.

Thanks ALJ South. Even if the declines don't show up this time, as LB suggests, they would probably show up on a supplemental/second cert. Maybe it is the second cert they are gearing up for now? Maybe also the offices that showed available based on a judge transferring won't end up being on the first cert after all if the judge who said he wanted the transfer ended up declining it after all....

The problem is I have listed about 20+ places, some of which would not require my family to move, others are across the country. We are prepared for me to accept in each of my locations, but it's kind of hard to finalize any plans without a clear idea of what I am planning. -- so I am cleaning out drawers and trying to tell myself that I need to do it even if I don't get any offer at all.
We know what locations are on our lists, but is there any way to find out how many ALJ's will be going to each office? Some may have multiple openings, and perhaps become more likely? Thanks!

Rabbit, I think you are exactly right. I believe the transfers for the current certificate were completed several months ago. The current round is probably for another certificate. For a Rabbit, you definitely have potential.

Even if you knew, it would not help you a bit. You will get one offer for one city and it will be what it will be. It wouldn't be the first time there were candidates from cities A & B and the jobs they were offered were in cities B & A. Good luck to all.

Hey thanks, ALJ. Maybe if I don't get an ALJ job offer, I will get one from personnel!
