There's been discussion in other threads as to whether or when ODAR has contracted references, but I don't think anyone has mentioned past employer references. One of my best references is a HOCALJ, but he says he's never been contacted. Is it possible that ODAR is not checking past employer references, or could it be that the process is onging.

There's been discussion in other threads as to whether or when ODAR has contracted references, but I don't think anyone has mentioned past employer references. My current supervisor told me he has been contacted (which I authorized on the background form). However, none of my past employers did. Additionally, 7 out of my 9 listed references told me they had been contacted. So that's where I am now.

Last year, a state judge reference responded to a voicemail message from Yale Assoc., whereupon he was informed that they already had their "quota" for me and did not need his input. Hence, it appears that they only require a certain sampling of references, perhaps broken down by category.

Don't fret. Just last week I received calls as a past employer of two candidates. They'll get to yours as well.

OTOB: I don't know. FYI, one of the SA in my office who's in the running said she got a call from OCALJ's office earlier this week asking her to provide further clarification on an issue that came up during her background check. She almost had a heart attack when they called. Many of us would like to hear more about this - anybody else contacted directly and asked to provide clarifications ?

Yeah, there were some posts maybe a month ago by myself and another who were contacted by OMNI (not OCALJ) regarding clarification of self-employment by a reference.

The post in WWW specifically mentioned a call from OCALJ's office this week. I doubt a call from OMNI would give a SA heart attack. So if this is not a troll post, it is a new and interesting development for us tea leave readers. Anyone got a similiar call recently?

What’s curious is that staff from omni/yale are calling references whom they previously told they did not need to speak with because they had met their quota. Happened with 2 references and 1 past employer. My partner is helping me avoid going to the dark side.

A number of my references were contacted initially, and most, if not all, were contacted again a couple of weeks ago for elaboration regarding two questions, one of them being my ability to handle a large caseload, and I forget the other one. The calls were not from ODAR, but from the same firm which had been contracted to conduct the background checks.

At least three of mine have been called a second time in the last week, and the question was caseload-handling ability. That, and my propensity to use grammatically questionable hyphenated phrasal adjectives. ;D

Has any CANDIDATE (not past employer; not references), ...has any candidate been contacted and asked follow-up questions, asked for clarifications or explanations, by any entity: Yale, OMNISEC, or ODAR?

I remember reading that OMNI/Yale contacted several candidates on this board to provide verification on periods of self-employment a few weeks ago.

In our submission to ODAR (listing references, etc.) I directed that my current supervisor not be contacted (see my post on this topic). ODAR recently contacted me and asked why and whether I would allow them to contact my supervisor.

I am about to find the preverbial bridge and jump! My references have STILL not been contacted yet. Anyone else in the same boat? Or maybe this is a sign they are not even considering me. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Background checks are being done on EVERYONE who is on the cert. As has been posted numerous times, offers were made last year BEFORE background checks were completed on some people.
Yes, there are quite a few other people who have yet to hear of their references being checked. It is meaningless. The folks who are doing the background checks won't get paid if they don't check your references. I suspect they want to get paid.

Fear not, Frequentflyer, they just started calling mine on Friday and pulled my credit report on the same day. I'm sure they will be getting to yours anytime now. But yeah, it is a little nerve-wracking, I sympathize completely.
