Application deadline is November 4th. I think it's a good way to distinguish yourself if you're a new/relatively unknown SAA and thinking about earning brownie points for an ALJ position down the road. Additionally, the extra disposition numbers for your office are likely to make your HOCALJ and HOD happy if you produce in sufficient quantity. However, for SAAs with a long history with the agency and are known quantities, this detail is either merely icing on the cake (for those with good rep) or unlikely to make a difference (for those that have a bad rep already). Of course, like any "opportunity to excel", it's a double edged sword. Since if you don't measure up, the bad reputation will probably follow you around for a while. Good luck!

Hey, kids! Marcia Brady here...
I'm one of the 100 on this list...
Any others going?
Should be fun!!
Surf is sort of rough today...must be because of the haze. But, I'm coated in SPF 45 and I'll paddle on out...I like the challenge.
Peace.

Milagros...telling you which class I am in is entirely too easy!! HA! HA!
First, are you in one of the classes? Hope so. It would be nice to connect with someone else...this might be the reunion or the gathering I had previously suggested.
Surf was really rough...got my Marcia Brady fannie kicked!
Come on folks...speak up!!! Anyone else in the VSU? This could be a real hoot with a little advance planning!!!
Traffic is bad on the 405. Gotta get moving.
Marcia A very special Brady

Why, yes, since you asked, I am in one of the training classes for the Virtual Screening Unit. And I agree that it could serve as an opportunity for the reunion you had suggested.

Kids!!!
Super cool...I can feel a reunion happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay...I'm in the December class. You'll recognize me immediately...I'm Marcia Brady.
The "ALJ Rejects Club"...I nominate myself as Princess...although I don't feel like a reject..."they" may see us as rejects but I don't...
REMEMBER...we all ROCK in the world that really matters...the world of our family and friends...we go to work everyday to make money to support our nice lives...our relationships with the agency are purely economic...they stop paying and we stop showing up! Nothing more. Nothing less.
Back to being a reject...I promise...we can make being a reject look really good!!!! Karaj...you've had this figured out for a while now...I can just hear you referring to us as "rejects" and it totally cracks me up!!! I'm thinking photo op...we'll all sign it...and send it to the Commish or the HOCALJ on planet earth...HA! HA!
There are 41 SAAs in the November class and 59 in the December class...surely it isn't just milagros, karaj, and Marcia Brady...SPEAK UP FOLKS AND LET US KNOW!!!
I promise to wear some awesome heels...lipstick...and a dose of sweet attitude!!!
Peace.
Marcia Brady

Karaj:
You'll be there in December!!! Just imagine how pretty the holiday lights will be while we are in training!
I like the idea of the band name...too bad I can't sing or play an instrument...at least we aren't singin' the blues!!
As for the rest of you...have a great weekend!!!

I am also in the December class. I am one of the"old timers" who also attended two CSU (Central Screening Unit) details in Falls Church. Those were bears-we worked about 60 hours a week.
I volunteered mostly so I would not have to write decisions. With a few exceptions, I have found that the ALJs decisions have been only remotely related to the actual law, and it tends to frustrate me to work for people who know less than I do. I am not exactly bitter-just frustrated. I no longer care if what I do gives me something to put in my application-I doubt if I will ever make it now. I have made peace with the whole thing and just want to do what I do and do it well.
I think that this job will be interesting and that the training should be, as mentioned, a meeting of like-minded individuals who can also have fun.

Okay okay okay!!!
Read the message from southermiss again...she has reached a place I reached years ago about life and months ago about the ALJ process...MAKE PEACE WITH THE WHOLE THING!!!!
I feel for those of you new to the process. I've been hanging around since 2007...well, twirling around since 2007...anywho...it is a "process" over which we have little control other than the application itself, the written demonstration, and the interview(s)...
We have applied...we've given it our best...and we never have to kick ourselves for NOT applying!!!
So, to quote sourthernmiss, I will "do what I do and do it well!!!!"
Peace
Marcia

Hi! It is my understanding we will be "screening" cases for OTR decisions... Southernmiss is looking forward to NOT writing ALJ decisions. The original solicitation announcement and the information from Ms. Simmons should answer your questions.
I have a friend in training right now. I'll send an email to see how things are going.
I have a "who cares" attitude...I don't really care what we are doing...I'm just welcoming the opportunity to do something different for a while!!!

Southern Miss, my understanding was that we WOULD have to review and write decisions on this detail..? Anyone know for sure?? Karaj, that's my understanding as well from going over the announcement with some of the SAAs in my office. The SAAs screen the cases, find the OTRs and then write and sign off on it themselves. Considering the SAA would be already familiar with all the docs in the OTR, it would be a waste not to have the same SAA write the decision. Besides, there are no AAs or paralegal writers attached to the unit, so there is no one else to write the decisions anyway.

Anyone else not get selected? There are two SAs in my hearing office and I was once again the bridesmaid not the bride.
