Tricia, I like your idea except why Chardonnay? I am a member of the ABC club (anything but Chardonnay).

Chinook, please don't tell me that you like merlot. I served it once when I was serving Italian food, and my husband said "If all liquor tasted like this, there wouldn't be one alcoholic in the whole world."

NO!!! to quote from Sideways "No ******* Merlot" I keep between 150 and 200 bottles and I have one bottle of Merlot and maybe 3 of Chardonnay, just for those that insist. Syrah and Petit Syrah are my reds but with Italian food I always go with an Italian or Italian style wine. Whites there is only one comment ABC. Alsace wines are great with the right food and a good sparkling always works. If you like sparkling see if you can find "Gruet" about $15 a bottle and Robert Parker called it "dollar for dollar the best sparkling made in America."

True but he is not about Gruet. I knew it before Parker discussed it. Try some and see where it is produced -- you will be amazed. Most of the decent wine stores in DC carry it.

Chinook, you said: "NO!!! to quote from Sideways "No ******* Merlot" I keep between 150 and 200 bottles and I have one bottle of Merlot and maybe 3 of Chardonnay, just for those that insist. " Wow, you are wine connoisseur. I have to admit that I've gone to the boxes - they're not too bad, and they're so environmentally correct.

I use box wine for cooking only (and then only the Black Box brand). See what SSA is missing when not hiring me -- they could have a resident wino.

Mine has changed to "complete" also. I'll let you all know either way. If the results do not arrive very very soon then I will have waited longer for this than I did for bar exam results. Obviously, the entire process will take longer than my bar review course plus the wait for the exam results. Let's hope it does not take as long as all of law school plus bar study plus waiting for bar results! Good luck. Thank you all for instilling some extra patience in me for the past few months! As we say in my religion, I wish you all lots of mazel!!!!!!!!

Assessment Questionnaire states "complete." Accomplishment Record states "complete" as of 02/22/2010.

The vast majority of posters appear to be reporting that their accomplishment record has now been scored as complete. I'd assume that, given the 1800+ views for this thread in the last 14 hours, we probably have a pretty good cross section of the 900-1xxx applicants in this pool, and it there aren't too many people left for OPM score. Does anyone whose AR is complete have a scoring date other than 2/22/2010 ?

Is it time for another poll on when? How about another poll on unrelated topics? Seeing that a few applicants like their booze, I pose this question: Will you drink more if you learn that you are going to the written exam or more if you find out you are not?

I think all of us who have been, er, completed were completed on 2-22-10, which is interesting since we only found out on 2-23-10. I, for one, checked Application Manager on the evening of 2-22-10 and my status was still "no results yet." And I live on the west coast, so I'm pretty sure everybody at OPM had gone home for the evening by the time I checked. The question is whether tomorrow morning there will be more applicants with scoring dates of 2-23 or 24. Or perhaps we will awaken to the anticipated and dreaded e-mail . . .

SSA already does have a resident Wino, thank you very much. I can also assure you that I am not the only one, and that there is always room at the table for more. My view is that there is no need to get all snobby about varietals. Merlot is just a type of grape, and a grape that is widely grown in Bordeaux, one of the great wine producing regions of France. Do you have any Bordeaux blends in your cellar? Good chance they will be primarily based on Merlot, if not Cab Sauv. Like any varietal, there are some poorly made Merlots and Chardonnays, and some truly wonderful ones. So much depends on the source (the vineyard, or terroir) of the grapes, and on the skill of the wine maker, that I suggest it is unwise to categorically eschew them. Try a high end Merlot from the Columbia Valley (Washington State). I think it might change your opinion. Apologies to all for continuing this off topic discussion. (hic!)

My application status package still says awaiting results, even those my accomplishment record says complete...for whatever that may mean.

Wino, I actually agree with you. I find the Bordeaux blends much better than a 100% (or close to that) Merlot. The problem with Merlot (and Chardonnay) is that when they became popular they were over produced and what you got for a reasonably priced bottle was plonk. I also find that merlot does not go as well with food as the blends or other varietals. There are really good wines for all grapes. Those two just aren't my favorite.
