Wow, I appreciate all of the info on St. Louis, but I'm not interested in applying. I posted because it appears that none of the ALJs are interested, and therefore our current participants in the Journey of a Million Miles may see these slots on their GAL. I get a little chuckle every time I see the "re-solicitation" for the St. Louis NHC. To answer someone else's query as to whether this was typical of the other NHC's the answer is no. However, that has a lot to do with where those NHC's are. Falls Church, Chicago and Albequerque are all very popular cities for ALJ's to transfer to so many were willing to "deal with" the quirks of working in an NHC and being outside the CBA for a chance to get to those locations. Baltimore NHC was less popular but also opened much smaller than it seems the St Louis NHC is planned to open with. I think I can state categorically that if the agency began direct hiring into NHC slots the union would go to a scorched earth policy . such a move by the agency would make the "clear anti-union" bias found by the arbitrator in the original NHC decision look like childs play and I do not see how the administration would tolerate such a move in the current climate of "cooperation" all agencies are supposed to engage in with the unions. Every time I hear how much more popular Chicago is than St. Louis, it reminds me of the poor city planning engaged in by St. Louis in the late 19th century. They were so full of themselves as a riverboat hub that they rejected becoming also a train hub. Although there were a lot of trains, Chicago actively pursued hub status and when the riverboat traffic fell off in favor of trains, they were primely situated to be the new "Gateway to the West." As a result, St. Louis went from the 3rd or 4th biggest city in the country to whatever it is now (35th?) and Chicago rocketed to popularity and fame. *Sigh*

[\quote] I would wait until this Board posts that folks are getting invited to the dances (WD, SI) and if nothing, email them. OPM loves email, phone not so much. Could you share the correct OPM e-mail address, just for future reference?[/quote] I don't have the email addresses due to my old address book being lost. I had a bit of a sea change when I got this job and one of the un-related happenings was that I got hacked, so I nuked my account. OPM doesn't like unsolicited emails. If you are not invited to the SI and WD, I am not sure that they will respond. Finally, if there is one constant truth on this Board in the last 2 1/2 yrs is that OPM basically does what it want when it wants. They will let SSA push them, but only so far. However, they do not like to go before Congress as they (in the past) have looked clueless.

PA, Thanks very much for the words of wisdom regarding OPM.

Thanks a lot for the information PF. I still can't believe (although I should not be surprised given what I have read on this board) that if we get through the first step, we will only be given less than 2 weeks notice for the WD.

my status next to accomplishment record still says "awaiting results" Is there still any hope for me? Although, my application status says complete.

Patriots Fan, you said: "I can only surmise that given that the SI begins in just over two weeks from today, your NOR is imminent. " Hasn't it been imminent for the last six weeks?

my status next to accomplishment record still says "awaiting results" Is there still any hope for me? I suppose OPM may still be working through a few, and someone has to be last; I seriously doubt that there's anything to read into it. Have you tried hitting refresh/reload at that page to ensure you're looking at the most current version?

Patriots Fan, you said: "I can only surmise that given that the SI begins in just over two weeks from today, your NOR is imminent. " Hasn't it been imminent for the last six weeks? Sure it has. But assuming that even OPM thinks we have to get at least a week of prior notice, we now have a de facto deadline of sometime next week.

alwayscurious-- did you click on vacancy ID, and look under details? cursor down and it should say 'complete.' then click on 'checklist, and see if you have 'ok' and a checkmark next to accomplishment record. I don't know, but seems like there should be no problem if it says ok.

Based on my info, next week is absolutely the week the NOR comes out. I'd bet a bottle of Newton Unfiltered Chardonnay on it! Or for red wine drinkers, a Château de Beaucastel, Chateauneuf-du-Pape! Now if I am right, everyone who takes me up on this must produce these wines to me! That Chardonnay is so good! Why even chinook would order another bottle.

Based on my info, next week is absolutely the week the NOR comes out. I would have bet money that we would have heard this week, based on the application manager status change. My new theory is that OPM is waiting until next week. If I'm right, I expect the first announcements to begin going out first thing Monday. I can't imagine they'd wait much longer than that. Good luck to everyone.

All this stress. If it is going to happen it will happen. There is no sense in wondering how much, what, or when to start drinking. We probably will consume libations any way. I prefer single malt scotch, however, a good red on occasion is a good substitute.

I've been rejected twice and I'm not hopeful (something about the definition of insanity and expecting different results from the same actions) but even I'm getting angry at OPM's apparent intent to give less than two weeks notice to fly across the Country. I wonder how many people who actually will be selected to sit for the WD and SI will say no thanks when they find out the timeframe?

Oh no, sorry to hear that rep2. I know how frustrating this whole process is. I have to agree with reapplicant, I'm pretty irritated with what apparently will be 2 weeks notice or less for the WD (if I even make it through). Come on! I have a pretty flexible job and could probably make the trip(s) on short notice, but I'm not sure its worth it. And what about the folks who have less flexibility? Just does not seem fair. Course fair and this process seem to be mutually exclusive.

Well this is humbling. I just received my NOR. My score "was not among the higher scores from all eligible applicants."
FYI, I have 25+ years of litigation experience, including numerous trials as well as oral arguments before my state supreme court and the Ninth Circuit, a number of published decisions, 25+ years of government law experience, supervisory experience as the head of litigation and chief deputy DA--but this experience was insufficient to make the first cut. Sorry to whine. I'm just expressing some mystification as to the criteria OPM is looking for, since it appeared they were looking for litigation experience . . .
I do wish my colleagues well as they progress through the process. Take care.
