Honestly, what difference does it make? We know there are people above 80 who didn't make the cert because they limited their location preference. There are also people below 70 who are in the same situation. But this board comprises at most only 1/4 of the people on the register, so we are never going to know how many people between 70 and 80 did anything because most of them are not here to tell us.
As other posters have mentioned in other threads, don't overthink this.

Chris,
You have provided a lot good insights in your posts and I thank you for that. But I have to tell you that sometimes you come off as pretty arrogant and self-centered. I think aljhunter is looking for someone to commiserate with or some reassurance that he is not alone in his circumstances. There is nothing to over-think here. He, unlike you, is out of the process on this certificate. I don't think that invalidates him as a member of this board with his own requirements for information. Your comment was pretty dismissive. What difference does it make? Not much to you or me maybe, but it seems it does mean something to aljhunter. I think his interests are more valid than a lot of the speculative discussion we've had on this board. That was my emotional reaction to your post -- and I'm not in his situation.

You have speculated about aljhunter's emotional state and mine. You have assumed I meant offense and that he/she took it. Then you assumed that you had the obligation to respond to that presumed offense. That seems pretty arrogant to me. The truth is that there are very many attorneys on this board and all of us are arrogant enough to think that we should be judges. My question was not dismissive. It was meant to be contemplative. Aljhunter seemed to have invested some emotional energy in this string and I wanted him/her to stop and ask why. "What difference does it make?" Think about it. What difference does it make? None. Absolutely none. We already know that we have at least one person on this list with a score over 80 who is not on the cert. It is reasonable to assume there are others at all score levels because only 71 cities were listed out of a total possible of more than twice that. So really what difference does it make if 2, or 3, or 5 or 25 people say that their scores are between 70 and 80 and they didn't list a city with an opening? It has no impact on aljhunter's position. We also know that most people are not going to respond anyway. On any given topic a very small percentage of the people on this board respond, even if a specific question is addressed to everyone. My goal was to try to make aljhunter realize there is a different perspective. If I wasn't sympathetic I wouldn't have bothered. But if aljhunter is sitting around obsessing over how many people are in his/her position then he/she is definitely overthinking this as have others in the recent past. I have been guilty of overthinking too. It is going to happen. But I always appreciate it when someone steps up and says stop.

Chris,
Sorry if I went a little overboard in my attempt to defend aljhunter. I do not believe you intended to offend and I guess I offended you in response. However, I must admit that my reaction was partially fueled by conversations with another attorney in my office who was denied a chance to be on the register and was offended by some of your earlier posts. I defended you then and I still think you mean well. I re-read your first post and I believe your motives are good. However, I hope you can also see how I found your original post to be insensitive. I think you meant to say we can assume there are a bunch of people with 70-80 scores who listed availability for none of the 71 offices on the certificate. I would bet big money you are absolutely right. I'll speculate again about aljhunter's emotional state and venture that he's feeling it more than thinking it. He just wants to hear from any the "bunch" who might read this board.
By the way, I believe your emotional state is good -- and you have good cause to feel that way. I think you're gonna be an ALJ.
