Looks like Ben has forgotten about his offer to make me a moderator on the old board. Of course it was made 1 1/2 months ago, and I didn't sign in and get my messages from July until a few days ago.
I quit logging in to that board because of all of the garbage. Just not worth my time. Later, Pix.

Hi Pixie, Welcome back! Hope we'll have a more civilized discourse this time around.

I think it can work (though it hasn't in the past). I think the board on yahoo was the most sucessful, though it definitely was heated at times, the moderator had a very high tolerance for attacks, mostly on him. Try to use a really light hand or people (myself included) will be gone very fast. Those who chose security over liberty generally wind up with what they deserve (neither).

Try to use a really light hand or people (myself included) will be gone very fast. Agreed. The best thing about the net is the free discourse of ideas. But at same time, there are certain things that have no value in a discussion, such as the name calling and "yo mama" sailor remarks that are currently going on at the old board. Ideally I would like this board to require no moderation at all, and heated discussions and diverse viewpoints are welcome. I just want to prevent the name calling and crude remarks that seem to have creeped into the old board.

I have found that boards that require registration require little or no moderation. I am the administratrix on another unrelated board and never have I had to ban a member, delete a post, or even warn a poster. Of course on that board, we are all adults! Pix.

word to the wise -- don't ever let *anyone* know who your are. the two boards ago moderator was an alj and was shut down. it will be hard to call when they start naming names in posts and such. will you delete the post? you can either hire a libel attorney, censor the board or be like ben and just hide. i think he could have deleted the bs a lot better, but when it goes beyond that, you will have difficult decisions to make. good luck!

Thank goodness for this new board. I've learned more in the last day or so here than I have over on the old board in a long, long time. I'm very grateful.

I think this new board will succeed because it has a lot more on-topic information and no childish prattle. Thanks very much. ;D

Don’t burn me at the stake, but I still sneak off to the old board to see what’s going on. It’s sort of the “Drudge Report” of ALJ Boards. There’s a lot more sniping and rumor mongering. But there’s an occasional nugget over there too.

You are not alone zero, but I must say the general tone and content of the Old Board has deteriorated over the last few weeks.

Me too actually. ;D And I have to say that place is a riot (in a scary way), since everytime I go there there's always someone going off the deep end. It never ceases to surprise me how low the posters there will go. Thankfully it's no longer frustrating to me because we now have this place to exchange useful information without the distractions from trolls.
Since I no longer expect to get any useful information out of that board, I now can laugh at how nasty some people will get down to when there is zero accountability.

To me, the old board is like McDonald's. Don't get me wrong--I like me some Mickey D's, but I always feel a little slimy the moment after I eat it.
For those of you with stronger stomachs than I, would you mind posting some of those nuggets from the other board over here?
