They are not the same. DC is one of the most popular sites. It is not from what I hear a "good" office. Geographic location, expense and percpetion is what drives popularity.
The site list has Evanston, Ill as very popular. Apparently midwesterners think highly of the location. I have not heard anything bad, but the point is less the ability of the office than the location. Only those with long ODAR experience will even think of taking the reputation of an office into consideration when making out a list.

Dallas Downtown, Dallas North, & Ft. Worth? THANK YOU! NotaFed NotaFed, As a Texan trying to get back home, I can tell you that those are sought after locations. Fort Worth has 5, Dallas DT has 3, and Dallas North has 2 (I am the 2nd one).

7 people on the transfer list to San Antonio.
No harm listing sites with a long list. Just don't list only them.

I tried to copy and paste the list but my skills won't allow this. If anyone has a particular site they are interested in and want to know if anyone is on the list to transfer to or from that site, then post here. I will check a couple times a week and let people know the numbers to and from a specific site. I don't have the time to create a master list of all sites but will be happy to help those interested in certain sites. I think most will be interested in the "to" list, but I will give info on either. Regarding the accuracy of the July 7, 2007 Transfer List: I have it on very good authority that this list is not entirely accurate as it includes names of ALJs who have voluntarily removed their names from the list to give others a chance, and it fails to include all newly added names. Another updated Transfer List is scheduled to be released after the end of this month.

>>> Another updated Transfer List is scheduled to be released at the end of this month.<<<
The published list is not controlling. The transfer list is maintained by Falls Church and updated as new requests are recieved. They send a copy to the union every six months or so and the union publishes it on their website.
I was told that the agency was nearly ready to activate calls to those on the transfer list this week. Historically, a good number of offers are declined. Management has apparently confirmed that if the first name on the list declines, they will make an offer to the second person. I doubt they will dig deeper unless the third name on the list is attractive to the accepting office.

The 7-9-07 list is outdated. One judge in my office got on the list just after this. At some point the agency can use the list they have when they start making transer offers. Tough luck to anyone who sends in transfer request after the agency starts making offers. It is all I have to use to pass on information.
A lot of judges should remove their names from sites if they are not really interested in moving. Personally I think a declination should remove the name for two years from that site, but that is NOT in the agreement and all that happens is the declination date becomes the new request for transfer date. But when the new list is published don't expect a lot of changes. Popular sites will still have lots of names on the list.

Colorado Springs has five judges and will not have any openings in this cycle. It is likely that Region VIII will have one opening in Fargo and one in Billings, none in Salt Lake, Colorado Springs or Denver.

2 to Boston (both have declined in past). 1 to New Haven 1 to Hartford 0 to Providence 0 to Manchester 0 to Brooklyn, 0 to Queens (renamed Jamaica on some lists ) 0 to Albany 0 to Newark 0 to Bronx
For general info the Manhattan office is called Jericho

Also 2 to Portland, ME
1 to Springfield, MA
There are rumors that Region 1 is not getting any ALJ's. I certainly cannot verify this. 1 is trying to leave Boston, 2 from Hartford, 1 from Portland, 1 from Providence.
There is one trying to leave Newark and 1 from the Bronx.

South: Your geography/info is a little off; Manhattan is often called, "Sodom," but never "Jericho." Seriously, though, Jericho is on Long Island (might have previously been in Hempstead) and is entirely separate and apart from the Manhattan office. Re: New England, I think there are empty ALJ offices in virtually all the offices, but the current "rumor" is that none will receive new judges, because, comparatively speaking, the pending per ALJ doesn't merit any.

For what its worth, I studied the list and discovered that before two new ALJs were assigned to my office in mid-2005, the top 4 judges on the list declined a transfer here. So, at least on that occasion, management went down the list a bit further.

Maybe, but I'm not sure they're aware of who's in the top 3 for a particular office when they make the transfer offers, i.e., the offers are made before a certificate is requested from OPM. Maybe Pixie or someone else with inside info can confirm or rebut.

And I always thought geography was my strongest subject There seems to be a trend at ODAR to rename a site after its street address. Houston-Downtown is also known as Houston-Bisonet.

I would think Texas would receive some ALJ's. 2 sites in Dallas, 2 in Houston, 1 in San Antonio.
They tend to be popular.
7 to San Antonio.
4 to Dallas DT 2 to Dallas North
1 to Houston 1 to Houston Bisonet (I think this is DT ) Also I know of one other judge who supposedly had his name added to Houston Downtown just after the list I used was published .

Houston DT and Houston-Bissonnet are 2 different offices. Houston-B (also just called "Houston") is the former Houston-Bellaire, relocated in late 2003.
