I liked the SJT too. embarrassed grin that I am admitting thsi. Was not too keen on other parts but VERY glad this pahse is done. Anyway, if you're not a litiigator, look into being one. People who love that get a rush for simalar reasons you desribed From waht I understand, jury trials are a huge rush.

I feel bad for everyone one who got an NOR, but I had to start a thread that has some positive/happy comments! I personally think this process is so FUN...yes it is stressful, but its such a RUSH!!!...the anticipation, the waiting...I ABSOLUTELY LOVED taking the SJT...I wish I could do it again!!! When I joined this forum I swore I wasn't going to actually post anything...I was just observing...but I couldn't help myself! I am so EXCITED and having so much fun...I need to share my excitement with similar situated people who are just as weird as me! Seriously...I can't be the only one who LOVES this... Signed, -Obsessing "futureALJ" If you had gotten an NOR notwithstanding 20 plus years of litigation experience you would not be posting how fun this process is. Lots of folks also have a lot riding on this process and take it seriously, I do not think they would opine that this process is a game that brings joy to them.

People who love that get a rush for simalar reasons you desribed From waht I understand, jury trials are a huge rush. Jury trials are only fun if you win (and sometimes even a win is not fun), usually if you are a prosecutor since you get to pick the strongest cases to take to trial. Preparing for a trial is one of the most difficult thing that I have done. You have people's lives and futures in your hands, it is not a game of what grade you get and the courtroom is the culmination of many long hours of research and preparation and sometimes you are prosecuting someone who you do not agree you should be prosecuting and other times you may be defending someone that you know should be convicted but you have to do the best job for your client no matter what you personally believe. I have won cases where I have felt sorry for the sentence the guy I prosecuted got, yes it was a victory but no I did not feel a rush. Representing clients in SSA hearings is not litigation, not putting down folks who do that work but that is no where close to even being a usual direct examination of a witness who is not subject to cross and re-direct.

Hi, I never did jury trials so I was only speaking from hearsay. I myself would not find them to be a rush but some of my friends love it.

Like I said exafjag I feel bad for those that were rejected...i truly do...it pains me to read all the horror stories...and I wish everyone luck with thier appeals if they were wrongfully rejected...but that is why i decided to make a separate thread...because I didn't want to make anyone feel bad when I express positive comments...and YES, I have done litigation just as you have...and unlike you, I get a RUSH every time I am in court, win or lose...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!...I just love what I do...so sorry you disagree...

That's for sure patiently. And future, do some more research on the ALJ job and if you know anyone who has done it, ask lots of questions. In my opinion and it is only an opinion, you may find it can get quite boring if you love litigating. Being a trial judge may suit your temperment better so start getting those political calls going and land yourself a presidential appointment!!!

The SJT was the closest I've gotten to a video game in a few years. It would be interesting to know what the correct answers were when all is said and done. LOL! YESSSS....if was a video game I would play it everyday!...you are right, it would have been even more fun if you got a score at the end ...or after each question!

I am with future. I liked the rush of the courtroom but the life of a trial attorney is difficult to maintain with a family. I moved over to ODAR and have never regretted it. It's not exciting but it is interesting and one has plenty of time for the important things in life. Plus there is the added bonus of knowing that what you do is important.

A not guilty jury verdict when your client is quietly mouthing prayers and is looking at hard time is definitely a rush. They dont happen often, though. And yes, i thought the SJT was fun. I liked it.
Having to go back and remember all the cases i have handled over the years and try to make myself look like the world's greatest litigator was laborious, however. Glad to be done with it and will expect nothing at this point. I would be pleasantly surprised to move on to the next round. I dont feel i would do a whole lot better on the test and essay than most and i have no vet preference. There's a lot of good lawyers out there.

Well good points future and HOD. Private practice and/or litigating are both hard to mantain with families. and the government offers more reasonable hours for sure. and the work that ALJ's and in fact all their staff do is extremely important.

I concur with Johnx. Jury trials are really fun but I have had a LOT of them. The SJT was like a fun video game, but I would enjoy the whole process better if I did not need to prepare for a couple of serious trials in the next two weeks. I would also be pleasantly surprised if I moved to the next phase. A lot of well qualified folks did not even make it to this phase for apparently no good reason, so I am not holding my breath.
