Thanks Gaidin. It seemed like no one mentioned it, so I thought they did away with that opportunity to rank ciies. Glad to hear that SSA still wants to be a kinder, gentler, employer-of-choice of newby ALJs! And congrats to you! Who'd have thunk Lawrence would ever make a cert! Well, look at the article about Lawrence linked on the other thread. I figure the ALJ that is being replaced got stabbed.

stabbing - would that be an expiration of appointment for Region 1? We shouldn't assumed they died, just stabbed. Maybe robbed before being stabbed (trying to help you weed out any contenders!!)

Holy conniption, Batman! I got a golden ticket!!!!!!!!!!!
I checked the poll for 2nd cert and scores and saw someone scored below me. After seeing that, I checked my spam folder in my email and there was the beloved email!

Did any of you good folks have at least one city on your GAL that was among the 28 cert cities, yet did not get an email today?

To the third cert hopefuls: IMHO, and from experience, I think it is rough being on the bottom of the certs. I was excited, I interviewed, then I watched all the offers roll in, but none for me. Then I waited, what seemed like a very long time, for the second certs emails. While waiting, I worried about whether I was 3-struck. I am pretty confident that I wasn't, but you never know. Anyway, the waiting was agony. And folks post negative statements. It is hard not to let it get to you, and some of my board friends know that it really did get to me (sorry, y'all...). Now I know folks will be interviewing and there is nothing I can do. My interview is done, my paperwork in. So the waiting begins again. Anyway, what I mean is that maybe it is a favor that you will make the third cert and then have all the activity, culminating with your offer. Maybe the cities will be better! And in the meantime, learn what you can from folks going through the process, and hopefully you will do even better in the future. At least the process seems to get a little better with each go-round. Now we are down to 24 hours, so I know the waiting is miserable now, but maybe you will have a little less waiting for your offer to roll in. I am doing a poor job of conveying what I hope are some facts that might be a little solace to you. *heart* Miss

A score that was sort of middlin' to low for the 1st round, looks like it would be competitive for the second round, may be really promising in the 3d round, and hopefully my area will come up. Here's hoping the stars align then. Meanwhile - the waiting's the hardest part, but it's nice not to have to scramble on a short timeframe. Good luck!

I've been thinking this same thing all along. I'm pretty sure I am the filler in this second cert SSA sandwich. 3rd certers, take heart, I think you are better off being top score in a 3rd cert than low rung on the 2nd, which is probably where I am. Enjoy your holidays while others are sweating. Come back fresh for the next round.

I am hoping for the second cert the numbers work out better because they have ironed out some of the kinks and there aren't as many folks left hanging. I think it was hard with the first cert resulting in about twenty less hires than anticipated. Don't want that again, please!!!

I don't have definitive info. It seems the GAL on the 2nd cert had more cities, at least by Regions. My only source was someone who was on the 1st cert and only had Region 5 options.
Perhaps the 3rd cert will have such desirable locations as Miami, Las Vegas, Reno, Denver, Florida West coast, Honolulu, and other coastal areas. Yes, as you can tell by the avatar, I like being near the water.

At least I don't have to worry about chessparent's... carnivorous tendencies... for the next few months. Go C-3ers! Yay for us old 1sters!
And, Mizz, thanks for the kind note to all of us. One of the kindest things I've read on the Board. I hope you get it! Thanks again and

If I can't contribute intel, I definitely have well-wishes for my fellow board members.

I don't have any way to verify the intel, but a source inside told me they were told SSA intends to hire 200 to 250 ALJs in 2015. Perhaps, good news to the 2nd, 3rd, and subsequent certs.

Thanks, to everyone who has posted likes on this link.
As I said, I can't confirm the intel, but it came from someone whom I consider as a very reliable source.
If it's true, then hope exists for the 2nd, 3rd, and subsequent certs, if it holds out to be true. Considering the backlog existing at ODAR, maybe this is true?

Sorry cheesy, you didn't make this cert, but keep your head up and bide your time because your turn will be coming in 2015. I am rooting for you my friend.

Hope springs eternal for the third certers and beyond that they may get a popular location.

Good morning all 3-C's! So far, it doesn't appear that any more emails for the second cert are going out, but let us know if you get one.
I hope none of you are too upset about missing this round of certs. For many of us, we had personal, family or other immediate obligations that prevented us from picking up and moving across the country or across the state. Although bummed that I cannot have a wide open GAL, I wouldn't trade my family for anything, not even this job. My time will come, I will be an empty nester before I know it, and as long as elderly parents don't get sick, I am free to roam about the country or spend a few years in crapland until a transfer comes my way.
I guess the trick is to watch the cities that pop up, for your small GAL or low score may not be the hindrance you thought. If it's a low score, we've seen how low they've gone on this second cert, so you are still in the running. If it's personal reasons for the small GAL, life has a way of evening out, and your time may come or you may find a better path to follow than being an ALJ. I know of 2 folks who have dropped out who both made the first cert with high scores - better opportunities came their way.

I got no emails yesterday and was all set to claim my place here - and propose the nickname of "Throbbies" - but I did get a call from ODAR this morning (even before any emails showed up). So just know that some people are still being added to the second certs today.
However, with a low score and narrow GAL (1 city of the 28 we've seen listed), I am undoubtedly "cert filler" for this go-round, and would like to reserve provisional membership in this distinguished group. I guarantee that there will be 3rd certers picked up before this technically-second-certer, so keep the faith!
