I am still waiting on my travel/interview call. I am in private practice so it will take some jumping through hoops to clear my schedule on any given day...patience, patience, patience...sigh Ditto. I have not had a call either. I think there are many of us in this boat though. If I have not heard anything by Friday afternoon, I plan to call/email & just make sure.

Steel, aren't you trying to wind your practice down? I know it's a gamble before the interview, but I hope you've got other attorneys you can transfer cases to. Cautiously optimistic at this point, but you could be reporting for ALJ duty on January 26 - 12 weeks from now - yikes! It took me 3 -4 months to wind down my practice, so good luck. I still think (and I have nothing to base this on) that this set of certs will yield enough folks for a March class too. I think they will get a look at many folks, and then continue to hire from this pool. So there may be more notice especially for those in private practice. I have noticed through the years the people in private practice tend to get more time, rightfully so.

FYI, when I called yesterday to update my phone number, I was told that it would take them about a week to make all the interview calls (apologies if I am misquoting them in any way). There's a lot more interview candidates than there are schedulers, I guess.

The more we try to contact them, the less work they get done. Thanks Loopstok!

I am a partner in a large firm Subtle brag is subtle, brah. No bragging intended. Just meant that I have many attorneys available to send cases to, making closing up shop easier and quicker. Also because I am not an associate I don't have to justify my disappearance for 1-2 days. If it makes me more humble in you eyes I am a non-equity partner, I work crazy hours and the ALJ salary (with the locality bump) will be a very small pay raise for me. So yes I am living the dream...good lord...

I made the cert for two cities but I am declining them both after much consideration. Is there any need to send in any paperwork other than the GAL form?

It states: "If you are declining all locations, only return the GAL stating your reason for declination."

I was a solo attorney, and already sent my junior attorney (stupid editing program) off to another job, so it just took me some more time before jumping over to the government. I hope you get an offer this winter from SSA, good luck.

I am on the cert for five cities, and am scrambling to contact references (I really should do a better job of staying in touch with former colleagues...) and to complete my forms. But I have not heard anything about an interview yet. Does the interview get scheduled only after you send in the forms? Any clarification much appreciated!

It could (probably will be) before you send in the forms.

Thanks for this--and for all the other helpful information this Board has provided. As an outsider, I cannot imagine having survived this long as a candidate without the Board.

Congratulations peacemaker and ibnlurkin! Don't forget to vote in the polls -- once you get your locations, of course.

I received the email regarding my certified eligibility Monday. However, no contact re travel. I hope no one is thinking I am fodder because I am not chopped liver. I coulda been a contender.
