Evidently no one is reading ALJD's sticky at the top of the board, so I will repeat it here.
During the application process to join this forum, new applicants must give a reason for wanting to join the forum. This should be typed into a box that is toward the end of the process. It is difficult to see, and evidently most applicants are ignoring it as I am having to send them an email explaining the process and then come back to this board and reject their application with leave to refile. Unfortunately, I can't send them a message from the admin section, but have to open my personal email account, type and send the message and then return to the admin section to reject the application. It is time consuming.
Rather than go through this in the future, I may just reject the application and not send an explanatory email. By the time one registers, the new process should no longer be new, and all should be aware of the requirement to give a brief explanation of why one wishes to join the forum.
This process has become necessary because of the increased spamming activity from outside the US we have recently experienced.
So, for new applicants, look for the box, type in the short reason for wanting to join the forum and then finish the process. Pixie.
EDIT NOTE BY PIXIE: Evidently the screen or the white box used for typing in the reason for joining isn't visible on most mobile devices. A regular computer or laptop should be used. Hopefully this will solve the problem of applicants failing to give a reason for joining.

I echo Pix's remarks above. This is the small price we pay to keep out the spammers from infecting this board again. At this point we really don't have the time nor energy to send out individual e-mail explanations anymore. Please follow the directions above if you don't want your membership application rejected without further comment.

Honestly people, don't you read any messages before applying? ALJD has posted this in a sticky, I have posted this in the active board, along with another message about rejected applications, which I periodically bump. Yet recently about 50% of the applications don't include a reason for joining the board. If you are using your phone to apply, the white box where you are to type in a reason for joining may not be visible. I initially posted this message almost two years ago, and periodically bump it, yet about half don't comply with the requirement. Pixie

If you have applied and not been approved it is because I rejected your application for failure to give a reason for wanting to join the board. Not sure if you get a notice when rejected, but if you applied a day or so ago and have not received notice you have been approved for membership, I have rejected your application. I usually approve most applications within a few hours of applying, unless I get involved in something I can't get away from.
Type a reason in the white box. Be brave and give me a reason. On many mobile devices the white box isn't visible. Don't apply on a mobile device. People this isn't difficult. Pixie

Ok, once again: DO NOT USE A MOBILE DEVICE WHEN APPLYING; the white box isn't visible on many of them. Pixie

And another thing you need to know. It is not wise to use a government computer when applying to join the board. You are telling Mother Goose your username and your password to the board. You have lost your anonymity. Don't do that. Your identity on the board will be known, and with your password, your private messages may be accessed. Be smart people, protect your privacy. Pixie

Is no one reading these messages before they apply?
I mean how difficult is to see print in bold type telling everyone to read before applying?
And don't use a government computer to make application. Not only have you lost your anonymity, but TPTB can access your private messages. Even if you give a private email address when joining, if you use a government PC, TPTB will know who you are with a bit of digging.
Protect your anonymity. Pixie

Honestly, people, how can you not see this message? But still about 1/2 of the applicants don't follow the instructions, which are quite simple really. If you can't follow the instructions to join the board, how are ever going to follow the instructions to apply for the job? And how will you ever find the door to the elevator area at the Crystal Palace for your interview?
Read the instructions, type in a reason In the white box and don't use a mobile device to apply. Use a regular computer or laptop. On the mobile device the white screen isn't normally visible. Come on people, be brave. Give me what I need to approve your application.
What I find amazing is that of the people I deny for lack of a reason, most don't reapply. Don't they read the board? Don't they see these messages? Pixie
