I am very curious how many of the, for instance, 12 Evansville IN selectors chose that out of careful thought and desire versus how many chose it out of the fact that they chose everything. If this poll is deemed too redundant by the moderators, feel free to destroy it. But I am left wondering how many of the people I am up against in certain cities have chosen them (like me) because they want to go to that city, or how many people would merely go there because they would go anywhere.
(Theoretically, this number would be subtracted from the numbers per office in the other polls to determine how many in a given site were specifically seeking that site. Thus, please don't vote here unless you already voted in the other four location polls).

Propmaster, While I am glad you started this poll, and think it is useful, I take exception to your characterization of those of us who said we would go anywhere.
I have lived in a number of states, in big metropolitan areas and in small cities, and each location has had its charms and quirks -- and I am free to move with my spouse, having already fulfilled our obligations to children and parents. I consider the opportunity to go to any of those 71 locations to be an adventure. It is fun to learn various customs and idioms, and to meet good-hearted people all over this great country.
I acknowledge you may really, really want this position, and yet may be limited in your geographical choices. But (many) others on this board really, really want this position, also, and feel qualified to do a great job. That said, as I have posted before in other threads, no one should accept a position in a city he/she would not be willing to live in for ten years. And I would hope that, once having accepted a position, each of us would contribute to our new communities.
BTW, small cities such as Evansville Indiana are desirable locations for some folks. My research shows Evansville had a population of 121,000 in 2000 -- which is bigger than where I live now. Not everyone requires big city lights!
Best regards, C95

LW said: "We have the 'Never See Another Flake of Snow Plan' or, at the very least, the 'See as Little Snow as Possible Plan.' "
I've lived in the south for years, and the first year I was in south Georgia it snowed in November! The Atlanta area gets 1-2 snowfalls a year, twice in my memory as much as 12 inches at a time, but the ice storms (much more frequent) are worse -- nobody can drive on ice and the power regularly goes out, sometimes for several days. Then you have tornadoes in Ms, Al, Ga, Tn, Ky, even at times metro Atlanta, as well as a host of other states, and hurricanes in the Gulf, Fl, Ga, SC, NC, and sometimes points north!
And now metro Atlanta is running out of water . . . and I think the southwest and west has that same problem.
As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, "It's always something!" ;D
P.S. Oh yes, I've lived in Wisconsin and upstate New York, too, so I know a bit about snow, although I'm no expert!

Well, I just got back from a weekend of skiing, and I guess I'm one of the ones to balance out the folks hoping to never see another snow flake!
I selected 28 cities (including Fargo) where there's like to be a flake or two (besides me)!

I apologize for any connotation I gave that people have "merely" chosen to go anywhere. However, it is still true that people who chose all locations did not specifically choose any particular city. (It may be that some people picked 100 cities and 71 of them are on this cert, meaning they chose all 71, but not all on the application, too). I think there is a qualitative difference between the coices of someone who is limited geographically, and someone who did not so limit themselves. This is not better or worse. But a well-thought-out agreement to go to any location is not the same as well-thought-out choosing of several particular cities. (Unless an individual looked at each city and decided independently that they could find the good in that place. As possible as this is, I expect it is far from being the rule. For someone to like New York and Paducah, snow and heat, coast and plains - these may all be tolerable to some (or many), but they are not likely to represent preferences). In any case, more power to you for your adventure. As others have said, we all have a 1/3 chance (roughly).

Hi -- I can't speak for anyone else, but I can add the reasons for my selections (I did not select all locations). Without question, I want the position. But, I'm not willing to go to Fargo (or anywhere else that's possibly as cold) to get it. My husband and I selected areas that we are willing to relocate to and stay there. With that in mind, we chose mostly southern states, but also included certain places in the southwest and west. We have the "Never See Another Flake of Snow Plan" or, at the very least, the "See as Little Snow as Possible Plan." I'd like to think that those who chose all locations gave it considered thought ... but we will never know. LW That's funny, since one of my criteria was that, if I was going to have to move, I wanted to go somewhere with more snow. Most of my cities are northern!

SSA decides to send me ... even Fargo, ND. I'm a city boy so I've been telling my spouse I'm preparing for Fargo, figuring that any other location wouldn't be so bad if I'm fortunate enough to get an offer.

During my Air Force days, I knew some folks that were sent to Siberia, I mean Minot AFB, North Dakota. The saying was, "Why not Minot? Freezin' is the reason." If you get Fargo, stop by the mall and see the Roger Maris museum. Good luck.

I don't know. He wasn't buried in the mall. ------------ That's a shame. What kind of mall has The Gap and Spencer's Gifts, but not the grave site of the first baseball player to hit 61 home runs in a season? ;D

Hey, if you cross a mall with a museum, do you get a mausoleum? Just a thought.
